So I recently purchased a 1991 4Runner that came with the whole body lined. This is where I will be documenting my upgrades and buildout progress.

What it has on it so far (this will be updated once I get more info from the house):
-Transmission rebuilt 5k miles ago by previous owner (gave me the receipt)
-Brand new clutch when previous owner had transmission rebuilt
-Brand new alternator by previous owner
-Brand new distributor, plug wires and spark plugs
-Motor swap performed on weekend of 16 Feb (motor is a 93-95 due to having a hydraulic tensioner instead of spring, the spring tensioner was used in 88-92 models from what I have found through research, hydraulic replaced it in 93-95 models) https://www.4runners.com/threads/1991-3vz-e-motor-swap.8678/
-Brand new water pump and thermostat (pictures included in the motor swap post)

This weekend I will be pulling it back apart to put on a new timing belt, pullies and hydraulic tensioner as it currently slips out of timing once throttle is applied along with pulling the power steering system to clean up some rust spots and clean up the powersteering pump.

Looking forward to taking lots more pictures of the progress and keeping everyone updated as I take this journey. below is a list of projects that I will be doing in the future as time and money permits

    Planned projects
-Custom fab front bumper with spot for winch
    -Custom fab rock skids
-Audio system upgrade (Door speakers with sound dampener, 4ch amp install, mono amp install with 12" sub in the back, pilar tweeters, eventually a double din head unit, anything else I come up with along the way)
-Replace driverside door with origional (its missing the wing that the passenger has so at some point it had a new door installed)
-Replace dash cluster bulbs with LED
    -Replace dome light with LED
-Light bar and 4inch light pods
-Cluster with 3 rocker switches and 2 USB chargers for lights and 2nd cig lighter power port
-New hoses for vacuum system and water system
    -New radiator

Any ideas/input is welcomed. Cant wait to take it off road

Had to give the wifes Yukon some love today since I have been spending all my time on the new toy.

    Old Rotors (Drivers Side)

    New Rotors (Drivers Side)

    Old Rotors (Passenger Side)

    New Rotors (Passenger Side)

Took 15 min to do the passenger side because I had to gather tools and had some issues with a bolt on the drivers side
Now i have much more work to do to her Yukon once I get the 4Runner to a good "pause" spot

Once I got that done it was time to get the tear apart started on Black Rhino to get ready for new parts
This is where she is at for the night and I will be finishing it up tomorrow hopefully

    New Parts

More progress but not quite done yet

Crank pully and Timing belt removed

    Old timing belt

Removed Intake manifold to get to bolts on the Water pully

    Plate removed behind water pully

Realizing the plate comes out and didnt have to remove the intake manifold to get to bolts

    Old water pully removed

    New water pully installed

    New timing belt installed

    Cover Reinstalled

and thats where i am so far, the new PVSV should be in tomorrow so I can get it installed before putting the Intake Manifold back on since its under the manifold.

Pulled the old BVSV and installed the new one and got some other stuff hooked up, still need to put the intake manifold/throttle body back on and then time the engine and see how she runs with new parts

    Old Valve

New Valve in all its glory

the good: got the intake back on and vacuum lines hooked back up.... she runs really well now and takes throttle while keeping timing.
the bad: i have to get new hoses since a few are dry rotted and broken (front hose going to air box, 2 hoses going to the power steering pump.
the ugly: after starting it and running only for a few min due to needing to add coolant i have found coolant leaking again so i need to trace what hose is leaking so i can get it sealed (hoping its not the PVSV i just installed because that would make me have to take the intake back off to reach it)

hose that broke off the power steering pump

other hose that broke connects here

here is the broken hose that they previously fixed with electrical tape

    Update
Yesterday I got the rest of the lines hooked up for the power steering pump (vacuum lines) hooked up correctly, found out that I have a ticking and initially believed it to be lifters  then after looking and listening closer it sounds like exhaust as i can hear it in the wheel well and have a couple studs that are pretty rusty. ordered new studs and tweaked the timing a little better. Couldnt figure out why when i timed it that it was idling at about 1.5-5k RPMs and thought it was off until I adjusted the idle screw and now its idling at about 1k and sounds much better (minus the dang exhaust leak). once I get the studs changed out hopefully it will be all good.

just a little tip for those out there.... dont unscrew the valve from the power steering pump....... you will drain all of your power steering fluid onto the ground  yes i did and yes it was a mess so now I need some ATF:itllbuffout:
