i have swapped for a 1991 4Runner and the auto shifter is loose. I bought the 2 bushings to replace, but after taking everything apart inside, I cannot seem to get to where those bushings are to replace. What am I missing? I thought it would be a quick fix, but I am struggling.

Is it only loose at the column? Cause mine is as well and curious as how to fix it. It just wiggles left to right.

My shifter isn’t like that. Mine is the one with the button on top. When I took it all apart, I couldn’t get down far enough to get to where the bushings should be

Does anyone have an exploded view of the 1991 version?

I’ve purchased another complete shifter cluster to replace the one I got. I will put fresh bushings in it. My question is this:
How difficult is it to disconnect the shifter arms that hook into the transmission and transfer case?

If you have the version with the button on top, there's a video of a Tacoma shifter bushing replacement on YouTube. Should be the same. But when I did mine it was in that cross bolt under the shifter like in the picture slvrslug shared

So, I’ve swapped out the shifter with another one that is way less worn out. I have a question:
Is there a way to “adjust” the shifter for 4H and 4L?
When I shift it from 2 to 4, I have to shift it all the way to 4L for it to go into 4WD at all. I know 4H and 4L both work...just gotta fine tune the change-out now

Adjustment made and I’m good to go
