    Hey all.
When I bought my 4Runner I was told that they had fabricated a new drive shaft because the one in it had been warped a bit.
(Done at a shop, not a home job)
I believe the rear U-joint is the source of a clicking noise that I've been having.
It doesn't twist back and forth like it's loose, butI can slide the bearings in and out about a 32nd of an inch both directions.
My issue is it looks different in the rear than the drive shafts I see in the manuals and on instructional videos.
The images and videos I see show a ""double cardan"" at the rear.
    Mine does not have this.
    Single U-joint at both ends.
Is this going to be a big deal in the long run?
Should I just find myself a stock drive shaft and replace the whole thing?
Anyway, I appreciate all of you and all the help.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
The double cardan is in the 4WD version only. If you have a 2WD 4Runner, you won't have one. If you have a 4WD version, whoever made the driveshaft screwed it up.
If your rear U joint is sliding back and forth that way, it's going bad. Replace it right away!

    Does that help at all?
    Pat

I appreciate the feedback. And... You !
