I have a 02 4runner sr5 ,my truck has 426,529 milage , my dad bought brand new in 02. @309k he wanted a tundra so he sold me the 4runner for 3,500 ,lately I've had couple issues with it I'll be driving and out of no where I'll lose the gas pedal idle goes to 1k , you have no acceleration unless you push the pedal all the way down to the carpet to fix the problem if you turn the vehicle off then back on usually it fixes it lately it hasn't been fixing it some days it does it some days it don't when you lose the acceleration pedal the transmission shifts really hard and normally never have issue with transmission, I don't believe it's a transmission issue because when you get it to reset the transmission shifts perfect you don't even feel it when you're driving, does anybody have any idea why I would have this issue, I've heard some people saying acceleration pedal sensor something somebody said something about TPS sensor heard those are not interchangeable you have to change out the whole throttle body assembly but I'm not a mechanic any help would be grateful sorry for the long story

It be a TPS issue. I swapped out the entire assembly with one from TOYOTA (do NOT buy aftermarket). It fixed a bunch of driveability issues. It stopped my surging with the AC on, stopped my hesitation, etc. I did not have your exact symptoms though.

Regardless, a few things that should be done BEFORE throwing down for an entirely new TB (which is about $500).

    CLEAN the MAF.
    CLEAN the TB.
    Check for Vacuum leaks.

    Buy a FOUR PIN TPS
    Aisan Throttle Position Sensor
    Part Number: W0133-2744128

Yes, the TPS was not available anywhere but finally AISIN (A TOYOTA SUPPLIER) made it available. (do NOT buy any other brand)

If none of that makes a difference...then it may be the Pedal Position Sensor which is not available unless you get the whole TB assembly...or it may be the transmission. Transmissions can be very wonky when they start going bad.
