    Hi all!

We just got our new (new to our family) '01 4Runner back from the mechanic after having the rear axle seals and bearings replaced and a new muffler and tailpipe installed. We noticed yesterday that the headlights do not shut off when the switch on the stock is turned off, so I'm wondering if this 4Runner came with daytime running lights (DRL's). When I bought my 2000 Taco, I remember DRL's were an option for it, but I never paid attention to if they were available for the 4Runner.

I'm actually leaning toward there being a problem with the headlight switch on the steering column stalk. I would think that the DRL's would at least turn off when the vehicle is put in to Park.

Thoughts here? Sound like an electrical problem or normal behavior if it has DRL's?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jonathan

There is a sensor on the dash at the windshield to detect light. They should always be on in the dark.

If the sensor is bad, they may stay on all the time. But pretty sure mine would be off during the day but I know at night, turning them off when the car is running does nothing. Makes it impossible to turn them on and off to alert the idiots that have their lights off at night.

I run my lights full on 24/7 for safety regardless.
