Hey gang! I am curious what the favorite sunshades are of the owners in this group. I cannot spend a fortune on one, but could justify up to about $60 for one.

I'd also be interested in a backseat cover too (second AND third row) as we are planning on having kids and dogs in the back two rows.

    Any suggestions?

Not at all. It’s custom fit for the truck. I’ll snap a pic and post for you shortly.

Weather tech makes quality products. (I dont own any, but neighbors love them.)
They make a nice back seat cover as well., though I like the carhartt seat covers, they are heavy duty (like a carhartt coat.)

I would seriously pass on the Heat Shield ones. I liked that they offered shades for the whole vehicle, my 4R does spend a lot of time just sitting outside parked nowadays and I wanted to improve fridge efficiency & second battery life while camping.

I bought the whole set and they were just surprisingly cheap quality. The part numbers from when they cut the shapes out is just written on in pen, the velcrostrap to stow them is attached via tape instead of being sown on. Symmetrical panels from
The left side to the right side windows were not quite the same shape, close but not the same. The seems on the outer edges were inconsistent, sometimes they butted up nicely and looked clean, other areas it’s very sloppy looking. The fit isn’t great in general. The little suction cups aren’t installed, they kinda precut holes, you have to push them through then apply the whole reinforcement taps to both sides of shades around each hole, before mounting the suction cups. I use them for the sides and rear but I don’t even bother to use the windshield one, I still use my old one.

The Covercraft (in the Highlander) doesn’t fit worth a damn. Because it’s rigid it can’t fit tight, they didn’t make a drivers assist and non drivers assist version so there’s a giant hole in it where the windshield mounted camera (along with a gap to fit around it) would be if equipt. There’s holes in it all over between the panel where the stitching comes through, and at least 1-1.5” gap along the sides.

Honestly it’s pretty hard to mess up a sunshade, it seems ridiculous to even have a post this active discussing the topic, but fuck both of those products!

I realize that. My point is, if your (the seller's) ad cannot even agree with itself as to fitment, why would I want to buy your (the seller's) product?

I've been reasonably happy with my Autoheatshield, which is a different company than Heatshield. They have a roll-up version and a folding version. I have the folding version.

Haven't compared them to any other sun shades in a 5th gen, but my folding version is very sturdy, well made, and keeps my truck a lot cooler. If I had any complaint, I think the folding version could fit a little tighter around the rear view mirror, but even still it does a a great job at keeping the cab much cooler. I've heard the roll-up versions fit tighter, but they aren't as thick.

I think I will get one of these myself and check it out. If it doesn't quite work on the 4R, I have a buddy at work who has a new Tacoma who would probably be happy to get it.

I never said it was my ad nor did I say anything about fitment. If you’re going off the Amazon reviews and the Amazon ad description then by all means go ahead but I did not write it or post a Amazon review. All I said is I have the heatshield and it works for me. You can choose to buy or not. Not a hard decision to make. Like others have posted there are other options and other types of quality sunshades that are also recommended.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was your ad. By saying 'your ad' I meant the company who sells them. I also realize you were making the point that you have one, and it works fine for you, which is great.

I personally don't care for the folding type, so I am going to try the TW post version. I will report back when I receive it. For $35 shipped, it seems to be worth a try.

Edit: contacted the seller on TW, he sent me the following photos:

You can order them blank with no printing; ordered one today.

Yes this one is the best. They make side windows for the front and rear too. I actually bought mine from the Dealer, it was like 15 bucks, check out the dealer first, believe it or not they were cheaper and I got my wife one for the corrola.

Weathertech sun shield works well. It is heavy duty compared to others we have owned.

Not so economical but I have been happy with Marathon seats covers. I have used them on several vehicles.

Received this yesterday. Great fit, covers windshield completely, and folds up to about the size of a dinner plate, which is easily stored under the seat.

Newest acquisition from @Level7Taco on TW, for the 4R, as the other one above went to my 2003 Tacoma:

Great sun shades. FYI - I'd skip the pouch, though, the one I got most likely missed the QC process, and wasn't worth the postage used to get it to me. Could be an anomaly, though.

Agree. I had this one in my F-150 and loved it so it was the first thing I got for my 4Runner. It’s very easy to deploy and doesn’t take up much room when not in use. I fold it up and kind of wedge it gently between the console and passenger seat. My wife doesn’t even mind it being there. And I use it no matter the temperature or sun. I believe it takes the temptation away from someone looking in my truck. They just move on to one they can see in.
