I’m talking about the part you use the wrench on. Not the actual filter. I have the wrench I used for the Tacoma but didn’t really wanna buy another one.

If you're talking about a 3rd gen Tacoma with the 3.5, yes it is.

Yes it’s the cartridge style but it has a cap that is slotted like 2nd gen tacomas. I have wrench to fit that but was curious if I fit the cap on my runner too.

Yep it's the same. What year Tacoma uses the cartridge type filter? I guess 2010+ would since the 2010+ 4Runnes does.

16+ 3.5 05-15 are the 4.0 and use a canister style mounted at the top of the engine.

Yeah the 05-15s used the screw on filters and not the cartridge style.

Yeah that's what I thought. But then I thought you said your 2nd gen Tacoma used the same tool as your 5th gen 4Runner? I had a 3rd gen Tacoma, absolutely hated it. Had the oil filter tool for it though and I use that same tool on my 4Runner.

Lol, yeah but from what I read due to quicker throttle response one can actually milk it and get better mileage. I'm not holding my breath, some dork in a camaro just raced me(and won) but it was fun as heck keeping up and dude looked at me like oh oh

No I was asking if it would work. I ended up taking it to my father in laws and used his grip wrench and it took longer than expected but got it off. I’ll try and find my wrench and see if it fits before the next change. Overall not a bad process just more aggravating than my 2nd gen tacoma.

Can't you just pull the filter housing off without draining it?

Decided to change cell phone mounts to clean things up on the dash. I was using an iottie cell phone mount at first and although it was fine, it was huge, took up a bunch of space, and rattled on occasion if I didn't set the phone in perfectly each time. You can see my old set up way up on the dash in this picture (you may need to squint):

Switched to a Scosche Magic Mount Pro and have been very happy with the results so far. It attaches with some heavy duty 3M automotive tape and is really solid. Phone is easy to slip on and off the mount and there are no rattles.

Also, replaced the cabin filter with a Wix carbon filter. Definitely heavier duty than the stock filter, which needed to be changed. Lots of dust and debris clogged in the old filter.

As in overflow out of the top of the filter housing as soon as you unscrew it?

I've read some people don't drain the filter housing first and while there is obviously oil in it, it's not enough to come out the top. They just carefully lower it to their oil drain pan, turn it upside down and drain it that way. Haven't tried it myself however, so no personal experience.

Do you think it would spew out of the top without draining it first?

I've tried it and yes it will absolutely make a mess no matter what you do. Stick the plastic drain in the filter housing, pull the oil drain plug, let both drain, it takes more time to try and find a shortcut than it does to just do it right.

I don't remove the plug, I just remove the whole housing...slowly.

I don't think it makes a big mess, but I also have a huge drain pan to catch all the oil and I wear rubber gloves.

Installed SSO’s high clearance sides last night, I love the look. But it frustrates me that this is the 2nd time they mess up on my order, this time they only sent one weather trim.

Yeah, I'm really liking it! A couple of tips that may be useful:

You need to attach a very thin magnet (the company supplies) to the back of your phone. If you have a phone cover, you attach the magnet to the inside of your phone cover. I just have mine on the back of my phone since I have no cover.

Use the supplied protective film between the magnet and your phone/cover because it helps the magnet stick better.

It's best to center the magnet on the back of your phone, but if you use a wireless charger, the magnet blocks it when centered.......so if that's the case, you need to place the magnet somewhere else on the phone. The instructions recommend you place it on the bottom of your phone, but I found the phone to be slightly shaky when on the mount this way. I tried placing the magnet up as high as I could on the phone and the shakiness went away, while still being able to wirelessly charge. Test out the spot you place the magnet by scotch taping it to your phone and then try it on your wireless charger before permanently sticking your magnet on. It could save you some frustration.

Once you've found a good spot for the magnet on the back of your phone, then find the best position for the phone mount to go on in your truck.

As far as the ocean goes, yes! Been going in it for nearly 40 years now and still have all my limbs, although I did see a white shark breach a few weeks ago 50 yards out from me. It was just a baby though. Roughly 6ft long.

I surfed a spot in Kauai known for it's large tiger sharks and a lightning storm ended up driving me out of the water. That would have been your worst nightmare

I've been lucky with my knees. Had a few friends that have had surgery or replacements. Seems like the success rate is 50/50 (at least with the people I know). How did yours turn out? Any limitations?
