275/70R17 or 285/70R17?

I can't remember what the backspacing of the wheels on my wife's 4runner are, but we did the 3" revtech spacer lift with 275 70 R17s and they only rub when fully turned and backing up. A small amount of trimming would fix it, but she is already used to it. Not sure if it matters, but my wife's is a limited model.

Loving my Destination A/T's. Fantastic tire that offers a good balance of onroad/offroad use.

 

I just recently had 285/70R17 BFG KO2's installed. I absolutely love them and think that they are the perfect tire size for 4Runners.

I also had a lift installed, and I do have slight rubbing on what appears to be the mud flaps that I'm going to take care of as soon as I figure out the best way to do so.

 

285/70 or 285/75? Those KO2’s look like 285/70. How much lift?

I went with KO2 275s because I didn't want to cut/trim anything. 285s look too big in the wheel well to me.

 

curious if you feel a drop on power or increase in braking resistance, these are load range E right?

 

I don't feel any off the line difference, but I can tell during braking. I never felt it was particular quick accelerating anyway, it already felt slower than the Tacoma I was in (2015)

 

I always thought it felt slower than my second gen taco but I keep seeing numbers that put them way closer than I though:

I don't exactly believe the numbers but it's a lot closer than I would have guess with the weight difference.

 

I'd say the Taco runs out of steam a little quicker than the 4Runner when you get above 45/50. I'm sure if I routinely floored it, I'd probably notice a difference between the heavier 275s and the stock tires, but I don't.

 

Get a bigger lift if you think the 285's look too big in the wheel well. haha

Here's a side view of my 285's and I think they are starting to look a little on the small side!

 

Everything that I am seeing leads me to believe that 34's would fit just fine with a little trimming and proper alignment. I test fit the 35's off of my tacoma earlier today since they are just sitting in the garage and they fit with only minor rubbing at full lock and I haven't done a CMC yet. Fully stuffed, they rubbed the body mount pretty good but chopping that would fix it. I'm only on 1.75" lift right now too. I also have done the high clearance mod on the front plastics.

 

34's fit just fine with a CMC. MCM Fab here in Vegas just did that to his wife's 4runner. I am gonna do the same on my wife's 4runner soon. Check out MCM fab Instagram he has pics on there.

Had them on last 2 Tacomas. Personally, I think they’re the best on the market.

 

I had them on a tacoma also. And I would have to agree with that statement. They make a great product.

 

I replaced a set of Kings on my 13 tacoma with the ADS and was blown away at the difference. It’ll be ADS from now on.

 

I almost went kings initially. But during my research I discovered ADS and liked what I learned about them. Then turns out MCM fab was a dealer here in Vegas. Went in and spoke with Matt the owner and was sold. He's a knowledgeable guy and works closely with ADS to develop equipment for our Toyota's. So it's been ADS since then.

 

What would you guys say the difference is between King and ADS?

ADS aside from Radflo is the only manufacturer of Coilovers that gives the genre consumer the same parts that they put on their sponsored race rigs. King, Fox, Icon, etc have completely different stuff they sell to the public.

i just got some 285s nitto trail grapplers with 17x8 ultra 235 maverick wheels on my 2018 4 runner and i have to say it really sets the truck off. the tires ride great for mts and they are not very loud. there is some decline in mpg but it comes with the territory. i am very satisfied with them.
