Hello everyone, I'm new to the game so bare with me please. Just went from driving a 2017 ORP without KDSS for a couple years to a 2019 with KDSS. Originally drove a 93' 4Runner back in my high school days and just miss driving one after driving a Lexus for a while.

But the first thing I noticed when comparing the two 4Runners is the 19' rides a rough. I could feel every small bump in the road I go over, versus the 17' which was a smoother ride. Any reasons why?

Check your tire pressure. My dealer had my tire pressure at 42-43 psi for the stock tires. I went down to 35 psi and it made a difference. I think the door jam spec says 32 psi.

Welcome! And agree with what cpb2019 said, likely tires are over inflated.

Check tires. Mine was the same way. Checked pressure and they were all set to 55 PSI! Max tire PSI is 44 on stock tires.

I'm not a suspension expert... but your 2017 was "floaty", as 4runners typically are from the factory. It's a soft suspension. I'm wondering if what your experiencing is simply the difference between your previous 4 runner without KDSS vs your new one with KDSS.

I've not driven a KDSS equipped T4R. But knowing what little I do know about KDSS, it's meant to provide some on road stabilization (ie. to negate that "floaty" feel to make it more "sporty").

The odds that something is wrong are slim (but possible). What you're driving now has a very expensive feature that your 2017 did not have. My guess is that's the culprit.

But I could be totally wrong!! Interested to hear what others have to say. And yeah it could certainly be tire pressure. That makes a big difference.

    Also- welcome to the forum!!

it was the tire pressure. It was over 50 psi when I checked.

I drove around like that for 2 months, thinking that’s simply the way it was designed - similar to my prior pickup trucks. I only realized the high pressure when I went to air down before going out on a trail. When I aired back up to about 35 and drove home, it felt like driving on a cloud. I’m not sure why dealers do that.

It's so the tires dont develop flat spots. They're supposed to bring them down to proper PSI before delivery but often forget.

In my case I didn't leave the dealership till 9:30pm and all their techs had been long gone by then and no one checked the pressure on mine.

Holy mechanical marvel, Batman! That's some insane tire pressure. Was that the cause of your out of control ride? That must have felt like riding on ping pong balls.

Wow isn't that like over the suggested limit of the tire or it's pretty close.

Dealer delivered it to me like that. After a day of driving it and feeling every little bump, I realized something wasn't right. Checked pressure and they were all at 55. Luckily I only drove it like that for a day before realizing it.

Same here. I just checked the tire pressure yesterday for the first time. All 4 were at 51 psi. Stupid dealer. & stupid me for driving it that way for almost 2 months. I now know why every crack in the road was felt...

Always check it after you get it back from them... most techs have no clue what psi to set them at.
