I know some of us bought it because we were fed up with the 3rd Gen Tacoma's....

That was my reason. The taco refused to stop giving me reasons to get rid of it, and I built the hell out of my taco.

I had a second gen Taco. I didn’t use the bed at all, and the occasional third row need is what put me in a 5th gen. I really liked my Taco, but prefer the 4Runner as a daily driver. I’d rock another second gen as a 2nd vehicle though.

Because there is nothing else on the market that I liked. If Fiat sold Jeep to a competent manufacturer then the WK2 would have been the only competition.

I had 2 different 2nd gen Tacos over the course of 11 years. Wanted more interior space, so I switched to a 4Runner.

    Had an 2006 lj with 6sp & 98,xxx. Bought new;

Got a job requiring more daily travel

I never felt comfortable with my daughter riding in it so we always took the wife's car

Wife couldn't drive the manual tranny

Nothing on the market that compares to 4rnr. -maybe LC200 ; ). But I got close and saved $40,000

Looking and capable, off road, I drive 50 miles a day 5 days a week and it was just no longer practical. I built an off road vehicle as a commuter, no so practical. It made lots of clunks and knocks along with the typical power problems almost all 3rd gen peeps talked about, even being OV tuned. As long as the next owner used it for the way I built it, they will be very pleased. Build list here https://www.tacomaworld.com/account/personal-details I have to share after the thousands I spent.

Smart man. I barely got over stock value at trade in, but I knew what I was getting into.

    Not necessarily in this order:
    - our 15 year old Subaru Outback was on its way out and we needed another reliable car that I could keep for 15+ years
    - we’re a family of 5 with a large dog and needed a cargo area to separate the dog from the kids for longer rides, as he thinks he’s a lap dog (but he’s clearly not)
    - we camp and needed a vehicle that had solid roof rack and front hitch options for camping gear as our rear seats and cargo area are taken with kids and the dog
    - our camping destinations benefit from 4WD (e.g., Carova, NC)
    - we have a boat and needed something that could launch it on steep, slippery boat ramps
    - we live in the northeast and needed something that was good in the snow
    - I didn’t want a full size SUV or crew cab pickup truck, as during the week I park at a train station with very small parking spots
    - I found the ride / simplicity similar to one of my favorite past SUVs - a 1990 Isuzu Trooper (I loved the cargo room and visibility in that, but reliability was another matter)
    - I always liked 4Rs

All in all, we found that the 4R fit our lifestyles best after reviewing the options available.

Needed a larger SUV that could tow/launch my boat
offroad capability for surf fishing, trails, etc.
lots of cargo room for gf and 2 kids/all of our crap
wanted a reliable vehicle that i could keep for a really long time
    great amount of mod options
got a great deal through a family member who works for toyota which helped immensely
i live in the northeast, so i needed a good vehicle for snow and shitty weather
    they look fuckin awesome

I had a second gen taco, loved it. I saw all the complaining on here about the 3rd gen and said " Nope, F that" and got a 4runner.

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh

same, I needed more interior room for stuff. That coupled with all the issues people were having with the 3rd gens and a test drive in one that was not what I hoped for.

My main reason was that my 17 TRD OR had some issues that I was tired of dealing with and I also wanted out of a truck after 28 plus yrs of owning one.

Because I was tired of fixing stuff on my 3rd gen and wanted a bit more power. Now I'm back to fixing stuff on my 4th gen but at least I still have plenty of power. :curls:

My '04 t4r sport with 200k+ started costing a lot of $ after 12 years of owning. It was a daily driver and I couldn't have it out of service and things were breaking regularly (worn out stuff) - last thing were the cats and you have to have them in a echeck state - so away it went for a '17 TRD ORP.

Had a 2012 FX F150 and was looking to downsize. Tried to love a new Tacoma, drove 3 different 2019's and just could never feel conformable with it and sitting in it, plus I had been reading all the complaints on the Tacoma site. My brother has a 2016 SR5 and loves it. He has also had trucks in the past but went with the 4Runner. After driving his and some on the lots I went and bought a 2019 Limited. Just love it! So far, haven't missed having a bed to haul items. Love the size and trust the reliability. Wife drives a 2017 Highlander so we are good with Toyota. Love this forum!
