Stuttering and stalling gen 2

    Ok, we now have intermittent stuttering and stalling. Also the RMP's drop significantly if the a/c is on when stopped at a light or something. Then at other times it runs perfectly.

    What gives?

    Thoughts?

    Book says to set idle at 800, but that seems far too low for my experience with Toyotas. All the ones I have had, all were idled high. I am thinking like maybe it should be around 1200 idle. Might replace the cap and rotor. wires are all new. Help please.

    Any smoke in exhaust? Install new cap and rotor and see if it helps let us know? Go with OEM it’s worth it in the long run.....

    Yes, will do. We are big believers in OEM parts for Toyotas.

    Well, so we changed the fuel filter with a Toyota fuel filter. Who ever monkeyed with the fuel filter, did a terrible job. It was an aftermarket filter and they butchered the fuel lines because they didn't drop the crossmember to get to the lines better. I drove it home and it did fine. We will still change the cap and rotors anyway.

    I was going to say, starving for fuel somehow. (Restriction, pump, delivery) generally if timing is off you have other problems. New cap, rotors and lines to the plugs. Don’t discount spark plug lines as just a wire. Over time the copper absorbs oxygen and has increased resistance and ultimately weak spark.

    The spark plug wires are new. We have a new cap and rotor on order with Toyota. Will be here Tuesday. This is an electrical gremlin because it is intermitting.
