Rooftop Tent Experience

Well she's here!

This past memorial day weekend my buddy and I attached a CVT Mt. Rainier Standard Stargazer Pioneer rooftop tent via the new Artec Industries roof racksystem

Here are some pictures. It made for a great weekend on Lake George.
Modifications besides the tent include a Pure Performance 3.0" lift with adjustable remote ressys front, Method race wheels on 33" Nitto trail grapplers, Advenced Fiberglass Concepts front fenders, Artec Roof rack and Rock Sliders, Magnaflow exhaust, and IDrive USA throttle commander.

Anyone running a similar setup?

 

I'm using a custom designed interior roof bottom tent. It basically goes on the underside of the roof. It's pretty sweet. It's made for some great month long excursions to Alaska and shit. Other mods include gas in the tank and a 10 year old Michelin US Atlas.

Eventually I want to make a road trip to the Arizona / Nevada area.
I can tell by those sleeping bags that you're used to the cold. What brand sleeping bags do you recommend?

I'm no connoisseur of sleeping bags. In the truck, since size isn't really a factor, we use 20 degree synthetic bags, I think one is a Kelty and one is a Marmot? Slumberjack, maybe? I'd have to look. Nothing great. We actually usually just use a few quilts in the truck but sometimes it gets pretty cold so quilt + sleeping bag works nicely. When it's like subzero it's quilt / bag / leave truck running...

On motorcycle trips, since size is a factor I use a REI 19 degree down bag, can't recall the model.

I was just ball busting on the RTT. They're cool and all, just not my jam. I'm a renegade / stealth / "I'm not paying for that" camper. Plus I basically am "camping" to sleep only, the adventure isn't in my truck or playing a ukulele around a campfire, it's out there.

I've reached an age where I don't really want to bone my wife every chance I get, especially not on a camping trip where we may not have showered for a few days and the next shower may be a few days off.

I'll take my monthly-ish fornication back at home where I don't have to wipe my dick off with Wet Ones, thank you.

I will be doing something similar. I didn’t go all out on the tent though. Gobi rack with a smittybuilt overlander xl. I’ll post pics when I get the tent (has been shipped).

I have to renig my earlier post... just bought a ROAM Vagabond. Hoping to swap between Taco and 4R as needed. We'll see. Still a month out.

 

Got out on the beach a few times this summer with the new rig. Swapped the tent over from my old wrangler. Just using the oem trd pro roof rack for now. Hoping to do a cross country trip this winter, anyone ever experience Moab in winter??

 

what brand and size tent did you mount on your TRD Pro roof rack? Thx.

 

It’s the smittybilt overlander. Sleeps me, my girlfriend and pup comfortably.
