I have a 2000 4Runner Limited, with a chip key. I can't turn the key in the ignition. I'm 98% sure the ignition cylinder needs to be replaced. Without being able to turn the key, I cant get the cylinder out of the housing. I've read that this specific 4Runner has a strange anti-theft device that may require replacement of the PCU if replacing the ignition, does anyone know if this is true? Also, any advice on how to remove the cylinder without breaking it? I'd rather fix the wafers in the ignition to avoid all of the re-programming mess. THank you!

In case anyone was wondering, I was able to get the ignition cylinder out. I pressed the key really hard into the cylinder, and pressed up really hard on the pin while turning the key towards acc. Did that for about 2 hours over and over until she finally clicked into acc, and then the cylinder slid out easily. I’ll bring the cylinder to a locksmith and update accordingly

In case anyone’s listening, got her fixed. Instead of going to the locksmith, just took the cylinder apart myself. I found a video on how to get to the tumblers, and then just removed the split wafers, and that fixed the problem.
