What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I run them also, only reason I know. Happy with them so far.

 

Built a bed platform with my day off...

 

Getting ready for a couple of weeks on/off the road so installed Overland Equipped Bolt-On Secondary Ladder/Extra Accessory Steps & Overland Equipped Bracket for my RotopaX Containers on my Gobi Ladder.

Brett, The glare is minimal for me on the hood as i have them positioned to perform as ditch lighting, not forward facing lights. They are intended to light the ditches on the sides of the road or trail not directly in front of the vehicle.
I suppose one could point them forward and light the crap outa the road in front of them, I imaging the glare would be pretty significant especially off my white hood though.

 

Heya Scout...Like the look of your roof rack. What brand is it? Do you happen to have othe pics of it from front and rear angles?

 

I had cheap ebay lights on my white tacoma facing forward and they would make it almost impossible to see with the glare

Got skid plate in this week. The T was falling off and the double back tape was messed up so I just pulled them all off. Put new tape and painted them dark blue to be a close match to the Nautical Blue.

Taking a week off in May to do nothing but work on the Runner.

 

I'm brand new to the 4Runner world. I went all in on my first "Mod" and blacked out my badges.

 

That is the first thing I did as well, not a chrome guy. The Black and white looks awesome.

 

Yeah I wish they would just do this from the factory on all models.

 

It's an Ecotechne

 

Took the back bumper cover off. Have to fit the expedition one bumper so I can drill the proximity holes then get powdered

 

Added some personal touches.

The lights I went with are from KC Lites, they are the Flex Quad LED lights (consist of 2 Spot and 2 Spread Beam pattern lights), got a great pre-Holiday deal on em just before Christmas last year (2018). I have em directed pretty well off the hood to minimize the glare and light up the sides of the road/trail.
They are B R I G H T and easily overpower the 20" bar i have behind my grill! I do not intend to use them as forward facing cause of the glare that would blind me from them

 

I just installed a 3” eibach lift and planning to get new tires this weekend. I want to get 285-70-17, will that size be too big?

 

I agree! The thing that annoys me is the silver front and rear bumper valances. Either make them black or white from the factory

 

They're nice. May have to look into a set

 

If you want them, you have to call. They don't advertise them on their website. Just a heads up.

Got rid of the chrome today. Went with Anthracite Gray Plasti Dip.

It came out really nice in person. I love the color.

I would definitely recommend it if you want to give your badges a little more contrast than the blackout badge look. I think it would look amazing on a TRD Offroad where they have the black backing behind the 4Runner letters.

Can't really think of a color that it wouldn't go with.

 

Did you do your side or front badges yet?
The front is my biggest concern.
I know I can take the upper part off. That is a lot of work when you include prep & dry times...

I have used anthracite plastidip on lots of things. I love the color!

I took off the side badges so I didn't have to do those. Those would be the easiest if you still have yours.

My front badge was the hardest. I was up in the air on whether to take it off to paint it or not. I ended up leaving it on and masking things off. I was worried all the little golf ball dimples behind the Toyota symbol were going to cause the paint to break and not tear off cleanly. Not sure if that reasoning is justified or not, but that was a worry......so I masked it off. It was a little bit of a pain. If I did it again, I think I would take the Toyota symbol off the truck and paint it. That's probably the easiest way to do it.

I didn't get the dip coat. I thought it was a bit pricey. I'm still curious to see what it does though.

I think I did roughly 7 or 8 light coats.

The dip coat is similar to a tire shine. It will keep the dip shiny. Spray on a rag & it goes a long way. Totally worth it!
Did the front peal okay with the dimples or should I spend the time to disassemble?
