Pedal commander - so worth it!

    If you don’t have a pedal commander in your 4runner you really should consider getting one I just installed mine today feels like a totally different car.

    Accelerator lag is eliminated and essentially remaps throttle response. The truck gets up and goes in sport and sport plus modes as opposed to how sluggish they are from the factory.

    It tricks the accelerator/computer into thinking you pushed it down farther than you did when it was stock. So depending on what setting you have it, for instance, if it was stock and you pushed the accelerator down 1/2"... with the pedal commander(again depends on what setting it's at) the computer thinks you pressed the accelerator down 1".

    So I saved $300 bucks or whatever it costs and I press the accelerator down farther when I want to go fast and don't when I don't want to. I can do the same thing as the pedal commander by just pressing the gas down farther. Make sense? It's basically a convenience item. People with it don't have to push the gas down as far as I do with out it in order to go faster.

    Ahh I see,I guess I’ll save my money that I don’t have, and just use my foot to command my pedal on how to react..

    That's what I do. YMMV. I'm sure it's a neat little gadget and I am not faulting anyone who wants to spend their money on it, since it's their money, but I have many other more important things to spend my money on.

    If it was less than $100 (more like $40) I might be persuaded to change my mind, but not even a consideration at it's current price point.

    It’s very different than just putting your pedal down more. You have to experience it by driving a car that has it installed. To each their own of course.

    If I were to get one, I think I’d go with the Sprint Booster.....and that’s only because I’ve heard it has a security feature that allows you to disable your gas pedal as a theft deterrent, but admittedly I don’t know much about it.

    If the 4Runners' throttle response is electrical vs mechanical, then the remapping of the throttle response would provide a different experience (different throttle application curve than stock). This is a common technique that "tuner" vendors use to make it feel like naturally aspirated engines gain a boost in horsepower from an ECU flash (they don't). I'm not saying that a different throttle response is a bad thing - to each their own.

    The throttle is definitely electrically driven (drive-by-wire). However, this device does not remap the throttle body response- that is controlled at the engine ECU. What it does is intercept the signal from the pedal and modify it before relaying it to the pedal input- commonly known as a piggyback device.

    This means that for all of its effort, the Sprinter Command Pedal Booster cannot rewrite the throttle body response curve- only modify the speed and position of the input signal. This is a small but important distinction from throttle response mapping.

    I agree with Narbeh, it does not simply 'replace' flooring the throttle. Depending on the setting, it eliminates the hesitation when pressing the accelerator. When i turn my PC off, there is hesitation before acceleration kicks in, turn it on...press the pedal and virtually instant response.

    It does not add HP or power...simply changes response time from pedal to motor.

    I have had mine almost a year now and cannot imagine my 4runner without it. When I want to go I press the pedal and she moves, no hesitation, no dropping the pedal all the way to the floor either.

    Yep, your right my 300 bones and I can do what I want with it and I chose to squander it on PC...and for me, worth every penny. As with this I am sure there are those that would not spend 300 bones on something like this but I am confident that you have also spent your hard earned bones on items I would not spend a single cent on. Definitely agree, spend your earned bones on what you like. ;)

    And Backslider/Mike, if your ever in Chicago area or if I ever get out to your neck of the woods I will happily allow you to try mine out either in my rig or yours! Install is easy to swap out and WILL NOT cause issues to add or remove!

    For those who have the Pedal Commander, does the eco mode actually yield better gas mileage?

    I know one thing for sure make sure you turn off your PC when you offroad, I was going through some mud rock mix in north central Texas NW OHV park and was sliding side to side with a little pedal punch. I turned it off and I was able to cruise through it

    I have not seen any improvement in gas mileage on any of the settings...

    The Eco mode is essentially an off mode (from my experience), it is equivalent to turning off the device.

    Thanks.

    I see this device akin to the “sport mode” you find in a lot of factory vehicles. Press the button and it feels like it has more pep.

    Not something I feel that I need, but I do like the idea of the valet mode (40% power reduction) and the pedal disable mode of the Sprint Booster.

    That's EXACTLY what pedal commander does. It simply replicates what a "sport" mode does in other vehicles. Those vehicles with a "sport" mode essentially have a built-in pedal commander with one setting.
