Spits gas back at me when filling up

My 94 Toyota 4Runner says I’m going 80 when I’m only going 40 and when I try to fill it up it spits gas back at me I’m wanting to get everything fixed up I spent 3400$ on the truck

I’d switch gas stations....

 

Do you think it’s a gas Tank issue or the Speedometer

 

Speedometer or speed sensor is faulty. Fuel tanks breather may be blocked causing the fuel to spit back at you.

That was a joke.

My guess on the gas spitting back at you is probably because the tank isn’t able to vent causing it to pressurize and burp back at you. I’d look for a clogged vent tube.

The speedometer could be a bad speedometer, cable, gear, speed sensor? Not sure as I don’t know anything about 4runners yet or their systems. So not sure if it’s a mechanical system or electronic.

 

Hey I just unplug the speedometer wires and plugged them back In

 

So I’m assuming that fixed it???

I’d say you’re probably better off taking it somewhere to get fixed.

 

More fun and enjoyable to fix it yourself.

 

I fix everything myself however, some people shouldn’t even attempt it.

 

Everybody has to start somewhere no better place to start then a 25yr old Toyota.
