I had 4.88 gears in my Tacoma 2017 6 spd manual loved it. Now will putting in 4.88 in stock 4runner get better gas mileage?

2019 nightshade. Gonna add a rear locker if I do the gear change.

What size tires are you going to be running? Tire size will be the deciding factor if 4.88’s are going to help or hurt.

Reading that it’s a 2019 nightshade, that’s a limited. If you stay with stock tires, 4.88’s will kill gas mileage. The 4.0l/5speed auto is a completely different beast than the new Tacoma drive train.

That’s a 31” tall tire. Do not install 4.88’s. Rpms will be very high with normal driving.

33s at least or 34s for 4.88 cruising around 70 mph on highway would be optimum. Just knowledge from my best friend who has done it.

I have 33's and I just put 4.88 gears in. RPM at 70 mph is 2500 other than that is so much more awesome for everyday driving. As long as I only do 60mph gas mileage is better, above 60mph it is a slight hit in mileage but not bad
