Has anyone have installed a lock or Gas Cap with locks in their 5th Gen 4R? Any recommendations? Gas is spiking in prices once again here in Cali. I live in a metropolitan where there’s a huge possibility of “Gascula”. I saw them in the news elsewhere where they suck your tank empty even i a broad daylight.

I thought all the newer vehicles had anti syphoning parts in the fill line? Years ago when I tried to symphony some gas out of my own truck all I could fit was a 1/4” tube down into the tank and it took absolutely forever to get about a quart of fuel.
Thus, more pricks are tapping into the tank itself and draining it that way.

All the reports of people who used the locking caps from what I’ve read is they leak and cause check engine lights to come on ? I’ve always had them on my trucks as well and when I went to swap one from my old Tacoma it didn’t fit lol so I started reading on them and found out about them not sealing very well .. if anyone has any info on them I’d be interested in getting one as well..

If you’re feening crafty you could always look at adding a lock to your fill door. That would avoid any cap pressure issues

A 12 gauge will work well also. Just ridiculous people can't leave other people's property alone.

I have a 2019 TRD ORP. I purchase the Stant 10504 locking gas cap 5 months ago and it is working great on the 4Runner. No CEL.

Just saw a news report last night saying this is going to be another shaky summer with gas and it'll see 4.00 lots of places again. Said probably a few weeks away for California to break 4.00.

Of course! The economy is doing great, people have money, and we have a super surplus of oil...Big oil has to get their piece, we wouldn't want them to go hungry, I mean Exxon only posted a $500 million plus PROFIT last year!

Yup lets not resolve issues like energy, healthcare and the elderly in this country. The politicians time is better spent on hearings over everything Trump and which baseball players took steroids, things real important to us American's.

I've been paying somewhere around $4.10/gallon for a couple of weeks now. $70+ to fill the tank.

I was expecting it though. I didn't buy the 4Runner because of its impressive gas mileage.

I wonder how many people will dump their trucks and SUV's if it hits $5/gallon again.

People can be so short-sighted. Do they really not think of the possibility of gas hitting $4 or $5/gallon when they make their purchase in the first place?

So a $1.85 difference in taxes per gallon between California and Iowa....CRAZY!

Yes, we are lucky right now but I do expect it to rise. Towns close by are .25-35 cents higher. Lots of flooding around here so I am surprised that our prices have stay so low.
Been lots of roads closed, Interstate 29 still closed from Missouri State line to 35 miles north.

    Well, not exactly.

Obviously there are places in CA with higher prices than others, just as in Iowa. I imagine regional demand is the biggest influence on national price differences.

    This article is interesting: https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...sts-fill-up-your-car-across-country/38908491/

Pennsylvania (of all places) has the highest state gas tax at 58.7 cents per gallon. CA comes in 2nd at 55.5 cents per gallon. Good 'ol Alaska has the least amount of state gas tax at 14.7 cents per gallon. Iowa charges 30.7 cents per gallon.

The Feds add 18.4 cents to every gallon.

Has anyone else use the Stant 10504 locking gas cap on their 4Runner without any CEL issue? Planning to purchase one but afraid it might trigger the CEL. There's a lot of gas thieves in my area.

    None at the moment
I need one too. If they are causing issues I may do a Mr. Bean lock on my 2020 SR5.

I put the Stant 10504 on my 2018 yesterday and drove for about 45 minutes so far, no issues yet.

I posted in this thread about the Stant 10504 gas cap back on April 2019.
I thought I'd give an update since this thread is, "new" again, and it will help others looking for a locking gas cap.

I still am using the Stant 10504 (purchased Dec 2018) and happy to say, after 19 months, absolutely no issues with the Stant gas cap, nor with CEL.
