If you are building an overland vehicle then my suggestion would be to leave it stock, put some good tires on it, full skid plates, and sliders and be done. This approach will maintain close to stock miles per gallon, will keep the reliability of the vehicle where it needs to be for "overlanding", and will keep thousand of dollars in your wallet so you can go to and enjoy more destinations.

The 4 can probably go more places stock than you are willing to take it. After all a stock 5th gen 4Runner ran the Rubicon trail with just aftermarket tires and sliders and only had minor damage on it when done. An raising it 6 inches plus with 35's is going to open up pandoras box on your wallet, let alone raise your center of gravity ridiculously enough to where you will seriously have to worry about rollovers off road.

I have the Fabtec 6" on my truck with 35's...if I were to do it again, I might consider 33's but I can't complain bout the 35's (outside of the absolutely shit gas mileage). We had to do a little trimming, nothing major, but I clear all-round. Get some scraping on extreme angles but overall not to bad.Bigger trouble is front skid plate off the shelf won't work with fabtech 6" cause sway bar is in a horrible place. We ended up customizing a TRD one to work...but it weren't no fun ;(

...and PS...Like Wally said...6" will seriously drain the wallet! ...but it is sweet when you roll up on a full size Ford and your eye to eye with em and when you are out with friends and you tower over em in a mud puddle. hehehe
