Getting mid 17’s mpg since upgraded from stock Bridgestone Dueler H/T

 

It's better to use revolutions per mile of each tire. I don't think its much of a difference in your situation but that is assuming the computer is accurate and in the example I am guestimating the revs per mile.
Have you compared the computer to hand calculation to see how accurate the computer is?
So...you would need to get the revs per mile from the manufacturers as they vary from the averages below. ....here is the example

275's= 627 revs per mile
265's= 638 revs per mile

So say you got 22 mpg you would take
22 X 627 ÷ 638 = 21.62 mpg

I know the little green eco light is annoying. I had turned mine off before I installed my 3” lift and 285’s then the whole MPG conversation started. I will say for the last 3 months or so I’ve made a concentrated effort to drive in a way to keep it on. I’ve noted that I have improved my MPG so it does make a difference.
Yes I just used the readings in the car.

 

How big are your tires?

I've heard some people suggest stock tire diameter on the 4Runner is a bit too small to begin with and as a result, we are getting slightly inaccurate speedo/mileage readings. They suggest 285's fixes that and back their claims up with GPS data when compared to speedo and mileage data.

I haven't drilled down into that data or tested it myself, so this is just hearsay.

 

when deciding to purchase the 4 runner is fuel economy the number 1 concern for everyone? or not really especially with EV's in the market. The reason i am asking is that i am in the market to purchase a new vehicle, and with fuel prices somewhat going up i don't want to make that mistake that i am left driving a vehicle that know will want in lets say 10 years from now, so if anyone can shed some light with the situation i am in that would be great..... thanx

 

Nobody can really answer that question for you for I feel just in my humble opinion 10 people will answer it 8 different ways. In a nutshell (again my opinion) for most folks buying a 4R or any decent size SUV/pickup gas is not the number 1 concern. Do I like it going up and specially peaking in the summertime of course not. Personally I'm not ready to make the leap into an electric or even a hybrid vehicle, again a personal choice. If you have concerns about gas and legitimate concerns they are look at 4 cylinders if you go with a gas model. Nowadays their pretty peppy and pretty darn good on gas also.

 

No one can predict the future... However, I do believe EV's are the future but currently are just not completely ready yet IMO and are more expensive all in to own than an equivalent ICE vehicle. An you don't buy a 4Runner if your concern is fuel economy, just saying.

 

Agreed, don't buy a 4Runner or any SUV/Truck thinking you'll get great fuel economy. It just won't happen. My (and probably many others) list of priorities was, what can I do with this vs other vehicles. Do I like the aesthetics of the vehicle. Do I think I'll be happy with this for the next 5+ years. Can I resell at a price I'd be happy with if I decide I don't want this anymore.

My 4Runner replaced a Turbo'd Mini Cooper (which replaced a Yukon Denali, yeah big V8 and big tank....talk about gas/money pit), so I already made peace with the dramatic drop in MPGs. Overall we're much more satisfied with going back to an SUV. It just fits our life much better than the Mini did.

 

Did the trip to and from daughters college Saturday evening. It’s about 2 hours interstate each way. Reset the computer just after getting onto the interstate it measured 19.4 mpg round trip. Was satisfied with that. Overall feel like I dropped 2 mpg going to the heavier tires.

 

Yep I lost mpg from that and from the lift.

Hi, I have a 2017 4Runner TRD Pro (mostly stock). Now it has around 14k miles on it. The mpg has been terrible since day 1....

The average mpg is only around 12.5~13.8 which I cannot accept because it’s not a V8 land cruiser. For most of time, I drive on freeway with around 75~80mph. And the average range is around 283 miles per tank only....

 

You say mostly stock. What have you modified?

The bad mpg was from day 1.....

 

Did you get a set of 255/75/17 tires? If so what brand and can you give a review? I’m going that route also. Thank you sir!

 

My fuel mileage isn't that bad honestly, what I'm concerned about is other dumb expenses like cell phone monthly bills, smoking , etc so yeah I'm going to enjoy this beast of a truck cheers

 

Something is wrong with your truck if that's true. 4runners run pretty consistent mpg numbers. Something else is at play here.

 

I'm averaging 17.2MPG in my 19 Voodoo Blue Pro using Fuelly to calculate and track it. My commute to work is 2.7 miles one way, all 2 lane town streets, and on most weekends I'm road tripping or camping.

I have been happy with my 17 Pro. I bought it new.

 

I have not reset since buying my 2019 TRD ORP in February and have driven 2800 miles and the computer is showing 18.3 mpg. Driving has been a mixture of city, highway and some driving on fire roads and dirt roads. The vehicle is currently stock as I have not yet made any mods.

 

Calculate it yourself. I bet you are actually around 17-19 mpg

 

You are probably right. I have not calculated it myself. I used to do it with my other Toyota trucks. Have not done it yet with my Pro.

2019 Pro... 15.6 City and Highway.

 

Too low something is wrong or you floor it all of the time or you added a bunch of weight , different tire size etc. You should get more than that.
