I recently had the windshield replaced by Safelite on my 18 TRD ORP with 20k on it. Now it seems like there is a film on the windshield every time I uses the wipers. I wouldn’t think it the windshield but I want to try new wipers before I complain to Safelite. So I was wondering what everyone else was using.

PIAA silicone blades, they last longer and do a better job. I will only put silicone blades on my vehicles, forever.

The cheapest I can find while I’m soaking wet because I put off changing them till it was too late....:spy: only happened once and they’ve been on my Tacoma for 3 years now:D

I used OEM replacement wiper blade inserts on my 5th gen. Worked really well. Think I replaced them two or three times in the 2.5 years I had it.

I'm still on my original blades from the factory on my 2016 and they are still working fine. I plan on using OEM inserts when it's time to replace cause these seem to be the longest lasting blades ever.

On a new piece of Safelight glass, I'm guessing there's a manufacturer's film/residue of some kind on it if you noticed an immediate difference in wiper performance. Clean it with a cleaner-polish that I mentioned previously (or similar- McKee's 37 makes a good one too) and I bet it will clear up. If not, then wipers might be needed.

But I'm almost certain you'll need something with a light abrasive load. Keep in mind- you're not "polishing" with these products. You're deep cleaning. The abrasive will help with removal of residues.

The best wipers I have had out of my 35 years of driving and 10 vehicles have been the Bosch Icons. They last and work very good in all conditions.

Any of y’all have problems with wipers making that chattering squeak sound alllllll the time? The 4Runner has oem wipers that are maybe a year old but man they make a lot of noise.

In my experience most OEM wipers do not last long. It depends if they use rubber or silicon, also it depends on what cleaners you use. Any cleaner with ammonia will destroy your wipers. But when your wipers start squeaking and chattering its time to get new ones.

possible the glass was stored in an area with oil in the air or other contamination. I did not like the toyota wipers did not work properly . so I purchased rainX hybrid at Walmart and they are still working great . these I just went thru a very heavy rain 2 weeks ago and worked perfect .. 2016 runner so these wipers are 2 yrs old .

I in the past had a nasty film on my windshield 20 yrs ago .. washed it with dish soap and still could not get it off .. looked like a nasty oil film .. so I put on a clean white cloth lacquer thinner just enough to coat the glass NO runs ,, then I saw the yellowish film .. did it a couple times and then the white was still white and the wipers worked good ..
shortly after doing this I was in a rain storm driving down the hywy and the rain blew off so much wipers were not required .. it was not new glass but I parked it in an area where industrial crap was in the air ..

Bosch Icons are top notch. They run super smooth and last a long time. By far my favorite blade out there and I've tried them all.

In bosh icon you need these blades:
    24A driver side
    20B passenger side

This reminds me. I need to replace my drivers side as it’s starting to tear at the top. I’m going to pick up a apsaras set to keep in the 4R just in case.

Anyone replace the rear wiper ?
I just replaced the front with Bosch Icon’s and waiting for the weather to come in and see if that fixes my issue.

You can't just buy a replacement blade at the store for the rear. You have to buy the whole OEM assembly unit. That's my understanding.

The A and B have something to do with curvature of the blade vs the portion of windshield it will cover. In some vehicles the front glass is far from flat.

used the rear wiper not much. also this is protected under the air dam so less UV damage. I when first purchased the 2016 I was gonna buy a back up wiper blade but it still is looking new no cracks and still wipes clean..

I am hot on properly cleaning the rear door/window since that is where all the road crap gets dumped.

if I recall, Toyota 's OEM glass has a water repellent causing the water to bead and run. If the windshield is new then maybe it does not have an added repellent, I have used Rain-X for at least 30 years and would highly recommend it. I hate when I rent a car and the water sheets off instead of beads off.

Has anyone replaced just the rubber/silicon blade. I like the OEM metal "stealth" look frame.
