Good evening. Need advice. Bought a 2018 4Runner SR5 4wd a few months ago. Would like to put BFG KO2 ATs 275/70r17s on stock rims and vehicle. Question I have is... Will I have to do any modifications to avoid rubbing? Or, will I be okay...

You’ll be ok with 275/70R17 with no rubbing issue. I haven’t read anyone complaining about this set up with stock options in the vehicle IMO.

I think 265-70-17 (stock) is the biggest you can go without rubbing.

275/70/17 ko2s on trd pro wheels rub in front while backing at full lock. Rubbed at stock height as well as with 5100s at .85.

is the simple fix for the trd pro wheels w/275 70 just to mod the front wheel well liner or is there more?

I need to get in there at take a look. I removed the mud flap and it helped, but still getting a little bit of rubbing at full lock while backing.

I have a Bilstein set up 6112 full lift and 5100 w Bilstein 1.5” rear springs. Just had -12mm offset Level8 wheels coupled w 275/70/17 KO2 tires installed today.

took it to get realigned right after the wheels and tires went on.

Appears they moved the caster forward. Now, I have TERRIBLE rubbing. Shoulder of the tire is grabbing the actual bumper, prior to alignment it was “grazing” the inner fender, easy to push that forward and fix that. But this issue is bad. Can’t believe the dealership (I had the oil changed too) didn’t catch (no pun intended) the rubbing.

Going back first thing tomorrow to see if they can keep it aligned and move the caster back....

If that doesn’t work, it’s back to Discount to get 265 instead of the 275, I wouldn’t mind that scenario. With the offset of the wheels the stance will still look right. These E rates tires are damn heavy!

You’ll most likely rub on the front fender liner while in reverse at full lock. I ran them for 5-6 months before lift. It takes two minutes to fix if you have a drill and two minutes

Mine is beyond pushing the wheel in and affixing w a hole in a new location. Mines grabbing the actual lower corner of the bumper.

That corner can be trimmed with a box cutter. I did it to mine and it turned out great. Can’t even tell it’s trimmed, really. They do this same thing for Pros at port when they put the Pro wheels on.

To the OP.....you shouldn’t rub with stock SR5 or OR wheels and 275s. You might rub with 275s and Pro wheels due to the different backspacing/offset.

Didn't know about this... Do the wheels on the Venture have the same dimensions as the Pro wheels? They look identical aside from the color, but I'm also curious if 275s would rub with stock suspension on mine. After everything I've read, it seems like the answer is a solid "maybe".

Yeah, the wheels for the Venture/Pro are the same dimension and yes, it's a solid maybe that you might rub with those particular wheels and 275s. Out of all the stock wheels for the 4Runner, they push your tires the furthest out (wider track width). However, alignment also plays a role. In this scenario, the higher your caster, the more likely you are to rub on the front fender liner and fender flare. Really easy fix though (the fix is called the fender liner mod) and I recommend you do it because the higher you can get your caster (within reason), the better drivability you will have. You'll also be able to retain your mudflaps and you won't have to do a body mount chop.

The liner and bumper mod took care of the reverse rub but now I’m hearing a slight rub at some point in the turn radius both left and right going FORWARD.
275/70/17 Wilpeaks on trd pro wheels
    Stock off road 2020

Likely culprits for a rub when going forward?

Did you end up with a 1.5” lift in the back with the Bilstein coils or +/- that?

looking to get that full kit. Doesn’t sound too bad for $600 w/o the front coils. But I want 1.75 up front and 1-1.5 from a coils in the back

Probably the body mount. Did you cut the front bumper slightly? Your three contact points I can think off is your fender liner, front lower bumper, and body mount area.

yeah I trimmed the front bumper. Yeah it’s the mud flap in the back that’s rubbing, oddly only on the left and only intermittently. Going to try a heat gun at some point it’s very minor so hoping not to do the body mount chop

Increase your caster next time you get it aligned.

No more rub on the mudflap. No body mount chop.

275/70/17 will rub on the mud guards when reversing on stock height. If you can clear at least 2.5in in the front 275s will be no rubbing.

I've had my BFG K02's 275/70/17 for about 2k miles now and I haven't noticed any rubbing yet except for maybe once on a trail.

I just moved from 265 Wildpeaks to 275 Wildpeaks on a 2020 Venture (TRD ORP w/ TRD PRO wheels). No rubbing on the 265's even in the trails with some flex. So far the 275's definitely rub at full lock (or less) in both forward and reverse. When Discount Tire installed them, they were nice enough to check the fitment for rubs. They test fitted the front passenger tire and noted that, at full lock, it did (barely) touch the mud flap. They didn't test the driver front, but I've heard rubbing from there already and I just installed the tires yesterday. I need to get under there and have a look; I hope it's nothing major. Neither sets seem to want to balance perfectly.. but perfectly to me is BMW smooth. I'm not sure I can expect that out of a SUV with these huge tires, ever (new to this truck thing). I do feel a little vibration from 55-60MPH, and if I take my hand off the wheel I can see a little shake, but it's pretty minor and not enough to "bother" my hand or body.. just noticeable a little. I'd also like to add that the C rated 275's are indeed 10 lbs heavier per tire than the P rated 265's. The additional weight doesn't really bother me regarding acceleration or braking, but at the same time the truck does feel heavier and more like a truck. With the heavier 275's, it feels more like the tires are driving the truck than vice-versa as before.

Be honest with yourself. If you don't really go off-road a lot, I'd skip it. The initial cost (50% increase in price per tire in my case!), running costs (additional fuel and brake maintenance), and drive-ability of the 275's is worse, and to be honest the 275's barely look any different (if at all). So far I do not regret my decision because 1) I do go off-roading quite often and appreciate the peace of mind from the "stronger" C rated tire, and 2) this will calm my desire to lift and go 285's for a while.

I know this is a late response but wanted to provide my experience. I recently purchased a 2022 TRD ORP and put on 275/70R17 BFG KO2s two days later on stock suspension. No rubbing or any issues really so far.

That's a nice looking rig above! I also have the KO2 275-70r17 and I get the rub on backing up when lock-to-lock. It is a simple fix - don't go lock-to-lock when backing up unless it's absolutely necessary.

I have a 2" lift on my SR5. I have the 265 Wildpeaks. If it rubs or not at 275 with a 2" lift seems to elude me
