having trouble with transmission its a 2001 automatic v6 wont shift into 1st gear when in drive and you come to a complete stop. the drive icon on the dash doesn't light up either and the key is stuck until you unhook the battery.

For the key problem. When in park push the lever forward a bit and see if that releases the key. For the shifting try draining fluid changing the filter and new fluid if that doesn’t help could be time for a rebuild.

There isn't a problem with the tranny. When you put it in low range first gear works. Thinking it is electrical or something along those lines. It doesn't shift down into first which is messing up park for the key, or so we think.

Not sure then will it manually shift to 1st? Just not on its own

and yes if I manually put it in first it works fine I guess the big question is neutral safety switch, shift lock control ecu, shift lock control switch, shift lock solenoid, key interlock solenoid,? I know its one of these
