Every 3500 miles!!

Oil and filter. Doesn’t burn a drop. And the old still looks pretty good. Recycled....

 

To buy this SUV today it would cost you 100k, that’s inflation...

How many miles?

 

Every 3,500 miles is way over-kill for Synthetic just my opinion. I used to be a die hard user of Mobil 1 also, My Honda with 152,000 miles usually took about a quart or a little more between changes (around 5,500-6,000) miles. At it's age I started saying the hell with it and opted for a little cheaper Synthetic last change I tried STP brand full Synthetic, around 5.00-6.00 less for the 5 gallon jug. Low and behold the level on the dipstick hasn't budged yet (only 2,000 miles) and I swear it runs quieter also. Lots of oil are a lot of hype and most Synthetic are not truly 100% synthetic meaning every single ingredient in it. In most if not all cases your car will never know the difference what Synthetic you buy except for maybe the elite of the elite (Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc.) Haven't changed the Runner yet and I might spring for Amsoil not sure but what's the difference because when I bring it in at 10,000 miles and Toyota changes it it'll not be a "super premium" label anyway. At a $40,000 sticker I am going to bring it in for all the "free" service intervals they offer, got my 6 month appt. this Saturday although it only has 4,000 miles on it but that's OK. If 3,500 miles works for you go for it but personally I run mine longer I will not however go the year/10,000 miles Toyota claims just goes against everything I've "grown up" believing Synthetic or not.

 

The stock Toyota synthetic oil is premium oil equivalent to Amsoil or any other. It is designed for our vehicles and a very good oil. That said I currently have Amsoil OEM in mine and I change it every 7500 miles. I can't go 10,000 either but that is just me.

 

I use Amsoil in the 2011. I probably use Toyota synthetic in the 2018 tell the 2 years of free oil change is up. then probably change to Amsoil.

 

That's exactly what I did. As soon as I started changing it myself I switched to Amsoil OEM

 

Hmmm Toyota oil equivalent to Amsoil?? Not sure I'm convinced of that. The great oil debate will go on forever as long as cars use it. If everyone is happy with what their running their doing the right thing.

 

As long as it’s changed regularly I’m sure it’s all about the same.

 

It's proven to be very good for are vehicles and I'm pretty sure it's made by Mobil 1. It's a lot cheaper than Amsoil also. You can research it at bobistheoilguy.com. A good site for the all time ultimate oil battles

 

My Honda dealership told me their Honda branded oil is Mobil 1. If your a major player like Honda and Toyota I'd think it would be foolish to go with a junk oil product and put your name on it.

 

My 1998 4runner that I ran Castrol Synthetic in. Changed oil every 5k miles. When I sold it it had 347k miles on it, never a problem. The kid i sold it to now has 365k on it and it's still trucking. The key is to change the oil and keep a clean air filter.

 

I think I’ve changed my air filter three times in twenty years....

 

Once your air filter starts to brake down all that dirt that passes through it ends up in the engine. I change mine every 10k, I take it out and tap the crap out of it at 5k. Never blow them out with compressed air, it causes tiny holes in the paper that dirt can get through.
