Pedal Commander

Has anybody used the pedal commander on there Gen 3/4/5 4Runners???

 

PC27 is what I have on my '18 4Runner Also $270 shipped if you're a Prime member on Amazon.

 

I am a Amazon Prime memeber How do you like it?? People rave about how great it is.

 

I have had mine for some time now, and i will say it does what it is advertised to do. I like it a lot, but if you are thinking it will give you better gas milage? It will not.

 

I like it a lot. It's as advertised. Like slvrslug said, just don't believe it will give more power or mpg, it won't.

 

I wouldn't have a 4runner without one, no MPG gain but you will be amazed at the difference in feel. It just changes how the electronic throttle responds it is so much better you will not regret it

 

I prefer to save my money and use the power of self-fulfilling prophecy for this one.

 

I put 285/70/17 tires and it does lag a bit more now so I'm getting one!!

 

for those that have the pedal commander, how much, if at all, did it negatively impact the mpg? I currently get about 17 mpg and don't want to go too much lower.

 

it has not change any thing on my MPGs at all ,but it all depends on how you drive it after i have set on City +1

 

It lags with the factory size tires too, but I did not buy the 4Runner for its performance at speed. I bought it for its durability and the phenomenal factory off road performance.

 

the pedal commander is a wise investment, it does nothing to the engine and does not affect warranty. The gas pedal is computer controlled and for some reason toyota programmed a one second lag from when you press the pedal until it reacts. This device simply makes the signal from the pedal go immediately to the computer to respond to throttle immediately when you press the pedal which makes it feel more responsive

 

I guess most people don't seriously wheel, but the lag is really needed when wheeling. It seems to be good for street driving though.

 

Very simple to just push the button to turn it off while off road.

 

I think in some cases it allows rpm's to come up before the truck actually moves. No proof of that. Just kind of a feeling. I feel it when the truck is under force (ex. driving over a big "hump").

 

I have 33" tires and I still get 18 mpg overall....that also includes full steel skids and steel sliders.

 

the pedal commander has nothing to do with your MPG good or bad

 

Over 4,000 miles on a stock 2019 Limited, driving 100 miles per day, mostly highway...
-from 20.0 stock down to 19.9 MPG on City +2 with Pedal Commander
-from 19.9 down to 19.8 on Sport with Pedal Commander

In other words, minor reduction in MPG, and it's totally worth it for the more responsive pedal feel.

 

How does it affect crawl control in off road situations?

 

Do you find yourself driving any faster or getting up to speed faster than you normally would without PC?

Or do you naturally back off throttle input with PC and maintain your usual acceleration patterns?

 

It doesn't

 

I drive as usual, I'm just happy that when I need to merge or pass another car/truck I don't have that delay when it is crucial like in a emergency lane change.

 

Installed mine today. WOW! Very impressed. I have a CAI and the two of them together work very nicely! I have the Bluetooth model and was changing modes on the fly though my phone and instantly can tell the difference when modes are changed. There goes my fuel economy!

 

What is the model number of the one you got?

I just installed mine last night its Awesome, Turned my Sluggish 4RUNNER into a Beast!!

 

It’s anazing! I’m getting one for my RAM 3500 Dually!

 

Got the Pedal commander what a Difference a must for these Sluggish 4runners!!!

 

Weird...my 4 is far from sluggish. When I hit the gas, it goes. When I hit the gas harder, it goes harder....My 2005 Camry with 190,000 miles on it is sluggish.

 

It’s to expensive for something that’s barely more functional than a placebo.

With fly by wire the accelerator pedal is not connected to the throttle body. The pedal is an input, the throttle body butterfly valve is the output. When you press the accelerator pedal it sends a request to the vehicle for more throttle, based on conditions and tuning maps the ECM desides how much to open the throttle body andin what fashion (gradual ramp up or snap to wide open). All of that functionality is in the ECM. When you take a Pedal Commander or Sprint Booster it has zero effect on how the ECM or the throttle functions. It plus in in-line at the accelerator pedal and it’s only function is to modify/amplify the the signal from the pedal. Basically all it does is lie to the ECM and tell it you pressed the pedal a little further and a little faster than you did, you can accomplish the same thing by pressing the pedal a little harder and a little faster without spending hundreds of dollars. The ECM is still going to what it best sees fit and it’s impossible for it to physically make the throttle body open any faster that it currently does, and it can open open to 100% either way. I won’t say it does nothing, because that would be a lie, it has a function, it’s just not a useful one. The placebo effect is strong enough to make it feel supercharged through.
