schmooged some aromatic bitters from the barkeep to complete my Old Fashioned proper. 12yr aged Whiskey. (nothing crazy, trying some higher grade Gibson’s Finest for first time)

These are heavy hitters - hope the forum is up for some shenanigans tonight

 

We drink agave spirits all the time. We do monthly educational blind tastings, we do staff training for liquor stores and bars, bar consulting, pairing events, etc. Brands send samples, distributors will stop by with brands when they are in town to try their stuff, we get invited on industry trips to Mexico, etc.

The tequila market is getting crowded with good quality traditionally made tequila in that $45-70/bottle range that is good but completely unremarkable. It’s very rare for us to try a tequila for the first time and be blown away by it.

We cracked this PM Spirits Still Strength on Monday and revisited it on Tuesday, this is easily one of the best tequilas we've ever had.

 

I’m enjoying a measure of Armagnac XO after spending the day with some college friends. New Orleans is enjoying absolutely sublime weather, and my lunch was the equal to it. I love stuffed shrimp and being with old friends.

 

I'm having a Wisconsin style old fashioned right now. I had a few oranges leftover from this past weekend and felt like I should at least try to use up some of them.

 

Found a very pleasant surprise at a liquor store I don't ordinarily shop at today!



I cannot wait to try this!

Did they have it at a reasonable price?

 

$110. Which I figured is a healthy mark-up. I'm just guessing on this, based on the reposado being around $65-70 when Total Wine had it. But, considering the rarity of finding it around here, I didn't mind paying it. I've probably paid more for lesser spirits.

Edit: after looking at Total Wine's website, it looks like the repo is $75 and the Añejo is about $105, so $110 at a small liquor store like that seems like a very reasonable price.

 

That’s not bad at all, small markup from MSRP. Typically you see Fortaleza Anejo anywhere from $150-$300 per bottle.

 

Yesterday’s shenanigans involved an impromptu group field trip up to Coa Cantina in Breck.

 

Fresh crack of a Tepextate and Madrecuixe dominant field blend from Neta. So f’n good!
