Hello everyone. I bought my '93 four-runner last year around this time, and since then I have driven it more than a few thousand miles, I hate to say. I noticed it really sagging in the rear, so I am in the process of replacing the coil springs, but I have an issue. The bumpstops and the base rubber piece that the coil spring sits on or attaches to have fallen and crumbled to bits. My question is, do I need the bumpstops and bottom rubber hardware in order to replace the coil springs, or can I just fit the new springs in place without any bumpstops or rubber hardware, like I did. I still have the wheel off to change the shock, but I need a clear answer about the coil spring rubber hardware and bumpstop, and if it's safe to just fit the spring in and leave out the bumpstop and rubber hardware.

You should definitely run them. The metal on metal without the isolator will make noise and no bump stops may damage the shocks on a hard hit.

It can't be much different than before. The rubber has disintegrated to pieces. I'm an old Discord user so I'm fine with the Trollies.

Welcome from Wisconsin! There are several aftermarket bump stops you can run. The 'bottom' rubber piece you are talking about(the piece that fits inside the coil spring) probably keeps noise down/ aligns spring a little. I think spring alignment is something you want as to prevent spring from wanting to dislodge from a random hit on the suspension. The bump stop is there to prevent metal to metal contact and ultimately damaging axle tube, frame, or mounts.

If you're going to fix it does it correctly one time.

Your bump stops are an important part of the suspension system, what’s there is designed to work together.

A combination of shock failure/spring sag allowed the chassis to come down hard taking out the bump stops. Over travel then will destroy shocks over a short period of time.
