what's up weekend warriors, wondering if any SoCal Runners have suggestions of favorite trails they drive in the Anza Borrego desert. I used to go out there frequently back in high school, many decades ago, but haven't been in forever. I am looking to take out the 2019 SR5 I just purchased for some mild-ish off-roading and site-seeing. Let me know!

^ That link looks like a great resource.

I spent the night in Blair Valley last weekend. Pretty neat place. I had the huskies with me so I couldn't go to the Morteros, Pictographs or Marshall South site. I'd definitely put those on my list if I didn't have the dogs. Lots of exploring to do out there.

Long time ago we went to the mud caves. Very cool. I'd like to go back for sure.

I highly recommend the onX app.

Simply tap on a marked trail on the screen and a information pane becomes available

Update: a successful trip. I tried giving it a go without a mapping app, just an old-fashioned paper map that was a little dated and probably a mistake, haha. I wouldn't say we got "lost" but we were unable to find a couple of trail connections that were shown on the map, so we spent some extra time "exploring" and then had to turn back instead of making a loop we had intended to do. Also ran into some super deep sand/wheel ruts that were pretty f'ing dicey and would have been nice to know about. Next time I'm using onX, thanks @Photon_Chaser!

Sounds fun. I love getting "lost" in the desert.

When we go out, we usually drive through Julian and head here:

Campsites and bathrooms. A gravel road that takes you out to the dunes and the rest of the desert. There's a little dirt bike track for the tykes too. It was perfect for my 5 year old who is trying to figure out how a PW50 works.
