I know many people are migrating to FB groups for their hobbies. I know people complain about the lack of technical explanation, but FB is a whole other level.

Guy says he can't turn all the way to full lock after Dobinson IMS lift. I keep asking questions to try to figure out what exactly is the problem.

This was the last snippet where I just couldn't take it anymore. (I'm Paul, Arafat is the guy needing help, the first comment is me). I don't think I've had more people working together trying to not help haha

Did he just shave the steering stop? Also it seems like he can't think of tires blocking from turning.

I have no idea. This is just the bottom of the message string. Every response from him and everyone else was basically the same stuff you see above.

What's funny is that was my problem a long time ago when I had wheels with the wrong offset. Tires were contacting not letting me fully turn.

Reminds me of people that shave calipers just to fit wheels.

I saw another post where a guy was eating up wheel bearings. Not sure how but he got 4.5 inches of lift without a drop bracket.

you went further than i would've. I get bored and unconcerned by that point and just leave it at "cool story, have a nice day". I like a place to learn about the shit I don't know about , and mess around sarcastically here and there. But don't argue when I'm the one asking a question, obviously there was a disconnect where it should be asked "I'm not following" or "Could you explain what you mean by your question?"

I understand the irony of saying this statement on a forum, but that's why I don't have a regular social media. I have fbook for my neighborhood updates and HOA rule postings and shit. But i do not the tik-flops, instagrams, tweeters etc.

And that's actually a common issue. And someone like you could've told him that if he just would've said "it's my wheel stopping on my strut"

The second I dropped my truck down and measured almost five inches of lift I would immediately throw it back on the jack and be like wtf. Not, "lemme run it and see how she does" haha

But nope! They'd rather educate me on a "lower knuckles". I would love to climb under with these dudes and be like, "point to me where the 'lower knuckle' is. Ok great, now show me where the upper one is."

Communities being gated behind Facebook, Discord are the bane of my existence.

I don't like what we put in is being scraped for whatever Torment Nexus is being built now but I still want it to be open and hopefully help people today.

But on the flip side, the internet enabling all the village idiots to come together sure didn't help.

I get it, you don't want a diagnosis. You want people to suggest aftermarket parts. But how can someone suggest a part to fix your problem if they don't understand the problem you're having.

Reading comprehension, critical thinking skills and self-awareness issues are more and more common. Too many people do not understand the art of nuance either.

Sad thing is that the public schools (at least in my part of California) are are calling resistance and rebellion "critical thinking skills."

I agree, I also definitely think one thing that has stayed the same however is the want for instant gratification and confirmation bias.

I get people want to ask a question and be showered with exactly what they want. But these groups (fb, forums, etc.) are supposed to be a resource for all. Getting an answer with no why behind it just benefits one person. Everyone else is still in the dark.

With some of the older generation corvettes becoming increasingly affordable I imagine the bar for entry is getting exceedingly low haha

FB groups always seemed to me an inefficient format to learn from collective knowledge of any particular subject matter, digging into anything is perhaps by design cumbersome to encourage new posts and traffic instead of an "ancient and outdated" format like forums such as this one where one can spend hours reading up on a google result of "keyword site:4runners.com" results.

But what do I know, I drive ancient automobiles, some of which don't even have power locks.

Couldn't agree more. Once the topic buried it is essentially gone forever.

Lol I'm still lurking in the FB thread. Someone suggested aftermarket steering stops. The OP asked if they will work with the Dobinsons IMS lift.

    This OP kills me.

From reading this post, I'm assuming "knuckles" are UCA's. Maybe you guys know this already but thought I'd chime in just in case

I think all of its open to interpretation based on how I got yelled at for asking what's rubbing what haha

I assumed he meant the steering knuckle/spindle/steering stop. But I'm still at a loss.

One of the many reasons I don't social media. I stalked this forum for a few years, soaking up all your knowledge, before finally joining to be a PITA.

Hey I just try to make sure everyone else doesn't turn a six hour job into a 12 hour job. Ask my wife, she knows that a quick job in the garage means clear my schedule haha

Working in the garage always becomes a time suck. My problem is usually when I think I have every tool under the sun, I find there is something new I need to get the job done which requires another long trip back and forth to the HW store

Ultimately, giving a forum to assholes show their true colors will always lead to assholes showing their true colors.

If they aren't for building up community knowledge and improvement, they're against it.

Petulant manchildren and their fatherless behavior are rewarded through the internet whereas 40 years ago, they would be living alone in a studio apartment working as a custodian at 60 years old and getting into fights on a weekly basis.

Now now, some of them do hook up with females of similar mindsets and they produce far faster than those who go through life methodically.
