    thank you

we have 6 or 7 of them around where I live (honestly a couple too many right now) and they are all really good to new photographers. I have learned a ton from them and the other members willingness to take you out and show you how to replicate their shots, I would never have progressed beyond candid snapshots without them. Our club and it seems most of them have a great mix of people just picking up cameras for the first time to professionals with decades of experience as well as non professionals that can out shoot some that have been doing this for years. It gives us something to shoot for 9 months of the year and is great to get out and meet other photographers from the area as well. As with any group there is always a touch of drama but overall I absolutely love being a part of it. It has also lead me to look into PPA (professional photographers of America) as well as PPW (professional photographers of Washington) to further myself. Also the club will try to get into some of the local winery's a couple times a year, we have a permanent display at a local coffee shop. Makes a good way to get your stuff out there and maybe pick up an extra sale or two.

What lights? I don't know how I could ever get all the things I want when it comes to portraits, indoors or outdoors, without strobes.

Love the above pic the only thing I would change to make it perfect
If you could center the guard in the void of stand cut out & color with pencil or stain the cut a bit. My eye is drawn to the lightness of the interior wood.
Super critical I know sorry again great pic just my .02

    Love everyone's photos!

I am looking to get back into the swing of things...I haven't shot anything for quite some time. I have an old ass Nikon D50 and want to upgrade to something along the lines of capability, but obviously more modern and with video. The D50 is still in great shape and I could pass it along to one of the youngins if they are interested (they love the polaroid). Any suggestions? Would like to stick w Nikon since I have compatible lenses, flashes, etc. I don't have a $ amount in mind just yet and I would certainly be open to buying a used body as well.

I will have to dig through some flash drives or my old mac and find my photos and post some here.

Sticking with Nikon, you could go with a D500, D7500, D5600, D3500 in crop frame with the 500 being the most advanced and expensive and the 3500 being entry level. If you wanted to go full frame a D610, D750, 810 or 850 would be great, with the 610 being the least expensive, and the 850 is pretty pricey. Nikon also now makes a mirrorless Z6 and Z7.

If you could see yourself changing brands, there is a world of choices out there that would be real upgrades to your current Nikon. Canon, Sony, Pentax, Fujifilm, Olympus, Leica being the major players.

those are all excellent suggestions. i have loved nikon for years, owned three of them. two digital and one film. ill start looking at the 3500 and go from there.

i could possibly change brands but a good part of that is overall cost and being that i have a bunch of compatible accessories, I will probably stick w Nikon. most cell phones are better than my old D50 at this point haha.

    thank you very much!

I love my D600, had a D70 then a D200. Hike all over the Smokies and Blue ridge with it. Invest in a good walk around lens and body. I am waiting for the 2nd gen Nikon or Canon mirrorless, surely the future. My friend sold his Nikon equipment including a D4 for the Sony mirrorless and loves it.
