    I will be getting a 2023 4Runner in a few days. (Actually, I had a 1991 4Runner before technology.)
I'm reading a lot about where you plug in your smartphone. My question is where do you store it when it is plugged in? Is there a place for it in the console or do you throw it in the floor or passenger seat. How long of a cable do you need? I'm confused about what to do with the physical phone after you plug it in. Help?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
There is a cubby that you can place it in. Your 4Runner will have an opening like this:

Place it there, and a short 1ft or less cable will suffice. The USB plug is right above it, so bundle it up nice and neat.

I have a x-mount up near top of the stack on the left side. I pushed the car-play port back behind the stack and replaced the hole where is used to be with a blank. I then ran a cord to protrude from behind the stack to right below where the x-mount is. It leaves about a 3" pigtail there so I can plug the phone in with the phone in the mount without all the pita wire all over the place. Tough to describe, i'll post a pic if I can remember.

Also has the side benefit of wired CarPlay as I had no end of issues with the bluetooth CarPlay thing I bought. Zero issues with wired.
