2025 TRD off road Mpg Question

just bought a 2025 TRD off road premium. I love it. My first 4Runner.
Does this thing need time to break in to get best mpg?
I have been driving it like a baby, mostly hwy so far, in eco mode, and the dash display tells me 16mpg. I can live with that. Just wondering.
I just purchased my TRD off road premium in Corpus Christi Tx for a dealer price of 60,500.
FYI, I could not find the trim I wanted anywhere near where I lived in MN so I flew down to TX to get the red one I purchased

That was probably unloaded, on pavement. Wait for skid plates, winch, sliders, a weeks worth of gear, traveling 1mph on trails in 4wd, on and on.
16 sounds pretty close mate. High to me in fact,....... thats probably street miles. 4runners arent gas sippers with the weight, and being a brick on the road.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new 4Runner! We all want to see pictures. There are a lot of folks on this board who are, how should I say it, 6th gen skeptics. Most of us haven’t even seen one in person. So you have more experience than most.

I suggest you re-ask your question in the dedicated 6th Gen forum.

 

Welcome Rob to the forum and Congrats on the purchase. As captain above mentioned, please bare with some of us. It is a good group of people at the end of the day.

To your question...there are no real rules of thumb for breaking-in properly these units. Just drive normal. I was going to suggest you go to Moab on the way up...and then that would be a proper breaking-in, but perhaps not! Enjoy it.

Question arises when you simply state MPG, we would like to see at what MPH and terrain/wind conditions and vehicle load you arrived at this 16 MPG. Being so new and very little feedback being reported so far. What tires/psi?, things like that can become very important info to know so whatever you can or willing to provide will be of benefit to all.

 

lol. You're right add all that sutff and you would beg for 16mpg. I havent seen 16 mpg in a LONG time

 

16 on a new runner, ouch. With the 5th gen, my mpgs got a little better, like maybe a couple mpgs better, but that didn’t last long. On the highway I can get about 17/18 mpgs with no RTT, on back roads doing 40 to 60 mph, I’m pushing 20, again cheap OEM tires and no RTT. Once I put on my more rugged tires, and RTT, I’m down to 15 highway, 18ish on back roads.

Breaking in as the manual dictates is never a bad idea and fuel economy improving after a bit is not unheard of.

Of course, there's a lot of factors involved. The computer might be optimistic, pessimistic, zooming at 85 MPH will wreck MPG vs 70, wind, hills, etc.

Calculating by hand or app at the pump is the best way to see true fuel economy and see how it shapes up.

 

16 sounds low, one of my 23 ORP has very low miles and I get 21 cruising at ~68mph on the highway. Do you hit a lot of wind when driving?

Also 60.5k is gonna take me some time to get used to, mine was 46.5k just 2 years ago...
