You know what you’re not wrong sir. It’s like the 6th gen is just a more pronounced angle and larger looking corner chunk

Saw a Gen6 out on the road, underground sport.

Coming at you, it’s clearly identifiable as a 4Runner (like you). However, as it gets closer, it’s as if you’re looking at yourself in the mirror w your shirt off, except magically the reflection shows you to be taller & more athletic, handsome, and sporting a sixpack.

Analogy aside, Gen6 looks like a 4Runner, just bigger and more modern. Driving it is a revelation vs old. I love Gen5, but Toyota engineers have clearly learned a lot of new tricks in the last 20 years, like….where to place an iPhone, or…acceleration.

Same as Tacoma, a lot of prior gen owners will instinctively dislike it, until they’re signing the paperwork on a new one and posting more pics here.

Not in my future. For me, Gen6 has the same issue as my ‘24: no bed out back.

It’s nice looking. I read an article about engine design for emissions. Apparently, piston blow-by is a thing…so the more cylinders, the tougher it is to make US and EURO standards. Thus the sudden influx of pressurized four-bangers. They seem to have learned valuable lessons about turbo lag and are going to turbos that spin up quickly. This contributes to the substantial torque boost. I‘m sure that these power plants have plenty of juice.

I’m sure this has already been stated and I’m simply playing catchup… but I think while the 6G is going to evoke a wide range of opinions at first it will ultimately be viewed as a suitable redesign for most people.

While I like my 2023 4runner (my second 4R) I can see it looking antiquated down the road (or “vintage” like my children like to say) when compared with these new models. I don’t think that is compelling me to “upgrade” for a 2025 but I’m sure Toyota has a long view of the market and what buyers want or will accept.

That being said… I’ve driven and ridden in the new LC (my father owns one) and while the exterior design is nice enough I would not purchase one… seems like a cheap version of the original and sitting in the G6 4runner at an auto show recently confirmed the same IMO.

At the end of the day… I’d probably leave the Toyota family before buying one of the new models. I don’t know much about Subaru or Honda but from what I see at the auto show and when compared to the new 4runner I’d research other brands that offer similar capabilities for less money.

I see Toyota decided to follow the long tradition of the Tacoma (since 2005) having the hood scoop on the Sport model instead of the Off Road on the 6th gen 4R. Time for a hood swap thread in the 6th gen marketplace.

I really don’t see how these prices will work out. How can the 6th gen be around $10K more than other similar size SUVs like the Passport, Ascent, Pathfinder and even most of the Broncos? How many people are really going to pay these crazy prices? Especially if they get even higher if tariffs get added.

Probably seeing what they can get away with combined with being in a niche that isn't really covered by the others. And the dealers can always discount quietly.

Crossovers have, as a whole, never been more capable but for a "mid-size" body-on-frame SUV from a mass-market/economy brand you're looking at Wrangler, Bronco and 4Runner. I certainly did not want the packaging, retro styling and removable roofs of the others.

But pricing the new Passport isn't very far behind, a base '26 Passport RTL (AWD standard) starts at $4k above the '25 SR5 2WD. Although top trim tops out a few k below that TRD Off-Road (not counting options) so not sure how consumers will respond as they move up the trims.

That’s the issue. The TRD OffRoad isn’t a top trim but still has that insane price. It will be interesting to see how these are selling later this year when they are more readily available.

It would be interesting to see how much BMWs, Audis, Mercedes would be, despite made in Mexico.

In the Midwest most dealers have a couple of SR5’s in stock. The higher trims are all pre sold. The higher trims are pretty pricey but I’m buying one because I have been waiting for the 4Runner tech to catch up with everything else. Toyota reliability matched with up to date technological improvements. And they look good and drive better than any 4Runner I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned every generation except the 3 slo. And the best part is that the truck is still made in Japan. My Sport premium will be at the dealer next week. I’m very excited. Like a kid waiting for Santa to come on Christmas Eve. LOL.

    Mine is SR5 and Wow!
Got mine on THursday and drove home, about 5 hours and about a hour about town today. This is my fourth Toyota. Tundra, Highlander, Sienna and this 6th gen. This is hands down my favorite and cannot say enough good things about this ride. First, I went to buy Limited for ride and dealer talked me out of it. Told me to get the SR5 because ride was smooth and no frills. I could not be happier. Paid less than 45K with steps and dash cam added. Super deal and great dealerhip.
Talk about having everything you need and nothing you don't. Moving from a LT Tahoe with bunches of stuff and so far only thing i miss is dedicated garage door opener. What a blast to drive. Corners super an is really peppy. I read five You tubes about this version and all say the same thing. Ride great and is really a bargain. If Toyota keeps up this pricing they will sell ten million. I was going to order after market leather but do not see need. More fun having a truck suv then bling. Like the blacked out wheels to round out look. Bummer with gas tank of 18 gal. Not used to this when LT had 28 but only negative so far. Have been shopping for amp and upgrade speakers but no one has fits so far.
    After four days 5 stars.

I got to see my first in person 2025 model myself today. I have to admit that in person it looked better than I thought it would have from the pictures I’ve seen online.

I saw a base trim model SR5 that was white in color with the notable weather tech black wheelwell trim fenders that I dislike so much. Overall, I think the styling grew on me of the vehicle exclusive of that.

One thing that did stand out to me was how much smaller the interior space seemed not only in the backseat is so many have mentioned, but also in the front cabin around the two front seats , I am not sure if this is because the center consul is much larger or just the way it looks, but it definitely seems less spacious than our older models.

For myself, I am not much of a gambler so I wish those the best with the new engine and new transmission and hope they do well. It will be very interesting to see how the sales of this new model takeoff given all the changes with the engine transmission overall styling, pricing increases in general, and now potential increases again next week on the vehicle as well.

For myself, I guess I’m sort of old-school now. I’m glad I’ve got an older vehicle , but I definitely wish those who purchase the newer model the best and look forward to reading more reviews in the years to come

I sold my 2017 Tahoe, LT and noticed that i paid $57k for it in 2016. Can't be correct but if it is I got a much better deal on 4runner. Interesting how much fun the 4runner is. Nimble and quick to move in and out of lanes etc. Quiet. Still early but am on bandwagon.
