OME 2" lift kit concerns

    For my 93 4runner I am thinking of going with the OME 2" lift kit sold by toytec (link below). This kit does not include upgraded torsion bars. However it being only a 2 inch lift kit is it necessary for upgraded torsion bars? I will only be doing light off-roading if that matters. Thanks for any advice

    The M1 Abrams has a torsion bar suspension. Are you confusing your 4Runner with the Abrams? Both are very cool pieces of equipment.

    What do you mean torsion bars?

    M1 abrams? I have no idea what that is. Torsion bars came in the 1st and 2nd gen pickups/4runners, it is a suspension component. Not sure how else to explain it but if you look it up it will make sense

    OP - back in the day when we were doing this stuff, heavy torsion bars were controversial, or at least the subject of debate. They are the equivalent of a heavy load bearing coil in the front of a 3rd/4th/5th gen. So for carrying weight, not particularly for lift. The spacer does the lifting. You can crank the TBs up for some additional lift but at the cost of a stiffer ride and less front suspension compliance. I was in the "you don't need them" camp but your not "wrong" whichever way you go.

    OME 2” lift, BudBuilt armor, RRO sliders, Spartan rear locker
    When I bought my truck the shocks and springs were worn out. The rear sagged really bad. I installed the OME 2” lift and the rear went up a total of 4 inches, 2 inches were sag. I adjusted the front torsion bars so the suspension was about halfway between the upper and lower bump stops and the truck was level. I did not use a ball joint spacer. I have rock sliders, skid plates, winch and winch bumper, which all weigh quite a bit, so I did use the OME torsion bars. I know ride quality is subjective, but I am very happy with the ride.

    That’s awesome @Justthemechanic. I’m not upgrading to any heavy bumpers, winches, etc. so I think I should be okay. I think with the BJ spacers it will be close to level with the rear and I won’t have to adjust my stock torsion bars. Thanks for your response

    aperez56 - glad you have a clear idea. I agree with the approach of justthemechanic. Tbars are for weight, not lift. I think you'll be happy. Plus you can always add them later if you feel the need.
    In my case, I had a first gen with lift leaf springs. I added the spacers up front and actually dialed back the Tbars to get a more compliant ride. So there are a lot of different ways to go with the setup. Good luck and happy wrenching.
