Where i live and wheel, .. its powder. Its like baking flour. Do your thang, but for me, id actually give up a few horse power (no one can feel from their ass) and don't care about MPG (its a 2 and a half ton brick, i knew when i bought it) for more reliability. But that's me. Everyone's different. I drive my pile everywhere. And i mean everywhere, and dont even think about anything being a issue.

Don’t forget that the Toyota engineered TRD CAI systems uses an oiled air filter.

Which, I would venture, the vast majority of get replaced with a dry filter, either oem or aftermarket, before too long.

Mine came with a CAI and an OEM filter from the factory. It just doesn't say TRD on it.

I have a K&N on both stock intake and cabin filters for the convenience of just cleaning and putting back in. I usually don't oil them (i know that's not how they work, but go back to the gunked up throttle body comment).

Man, I dunno. If you're going to use K&N, I'd rather deal with a gunked up MAF/throttle body from an oiled filter than potentially ingesting FOD into my engine. Playing with fire, IMO.

    Clean engine is overrated.

Same paper filter for 20k now in the Tacoma.

K&N is great until you have to do the cleaning kit. Then you'll have to invest in a MAF cleaner. Fun fact though....MAF cleaner can also clean the print head on your ink jet printer.

K&N may have jacked up my old Lincoln, but my printer ran like it was brand new.

Definitely worth the k & n shit filter just for the huge burst of extra power they provide!

Went with K&N because of space constraints. It was the only one I could find that would fit with only minor mods. My tire needed more room unless I planned on just going straight and not flexing. 1 year of hard use on it now with no regrets. It now also makes cool wooshy noises when i get on it.

The oiled cotton gauze TRD drop-in air filter in my Tacoma came from the Toyota dealer parts counter.

To illustrate how useless one more K&N thread is - try googling K&N site:4runners.com/ and see what you get. This is just part of page 1:

These are dandelion threads. They can be controlled, but never eliminated. Typical dandelion thread: "I just bought some engine drain plug gaskets on sale from Walmart, are they just as good as O.E.M.? Any thoughts?"

Toyota wants you to replace the engine air filter every 30K miles even under dusty conditions. Of course that’s normal if you don’t follow the Jiffy Lube “looks dirty” interval.

    Toyota Filter: $28.26
    K&N from Oreilly’s: $64.99

Over 60K miles for the K&N to pay for itself and you get the direct dirt injection plus no extra power.

Really the oil and filters should be replaced at every engine start. Good luck stop/start peeps. :bananadead:

That’s exactly why people shouldn’t use them. Without the oil, it ain’t working
