    Update:

Just pick up the older style trail boards. Will snap a pic when I get them installed. Need to replace the rusted hardware and woolwaxing the brackets. Certainly don't seem as robust as the new ones. They are longer though.

I’ve got them for sale right now on the local Craigslist as I’m searching for alternative running boards. $400 in Minneapolis. PM me if you’re interested.

Do you have the length of the old trail running boards vs the new trail running boards? Someone just sent me the length of the TRD Pro running boards (69”) and I’d like to compare.

@Harringbr99 when you left it straight rather than curved like the video, did you run into any troubles or have to buy rocker moldings?

I've had the rock sliders in place for protection for about 2 years now, and I've not had any problem with the sheet metal in the front or rear of my rock sliders. If you get really low under the truck you can see that there is an exposed body-color bolt, and pinch weld. But because it is body colored it looks like it's supposed to be that way. I think that even if I had left the plastic in place it wouldn't have been any less vulnerable.
    Hope that helps.

I doubt anyone is still on this thread, but if so I want to thank ya'll so much for the info! The wife and I just bought an absolutely awesome 2016 4Runner Limited and I had no idea about the side steps nonsense. The wife is a little on the shorter side and especially with future leveling with bigger tires plans side steps will be a must. Just ordered all the parts to swap out the rockers for the black rockers and rocker caps from above, and am buying some OEM running boards from a guy tomorrow second hand for $100. The goal down the road is to do the rough country electric boards but will happily go with these for now. Excited for it all to come in so I can start wrenching. Thanks guys!!!

Meanwhile, I keep waiting for this thread to get updated with the new cheap non-oem option haha! Someone stands to make some money off Limited converters who are trying to replace the rockers without cutting up the stock rocker panels (I did that & it works, looks ok) or pay OEM prices. Shrockworks did it back in the day with metal, but I don’t even care if it’s plastic. I just want a cheaper than oem option to fill the gap aesthetically so it’s not just a bare metal or DIY cut look haha!

You'd think with all the aftermarket parts available for 4Runners, someone would have taken this on...

@4Person Do you still need that dimension? Never saw your request. Sorry about that. I will get these and post them for future reference. Love the look of the old trail boards but not loving how slippery they are. Dog slipped once on them and now avoids them. If they are wet I won't touch them also. Thinking about a couple of fixes but have not done anything yet.

I did the bracket replacement that drops and extends it out by 1". Did the trick for us as we can no use the step better.

@1SilverRunner Yes, that is the option that I plan on going with. Waiting to the weather to warm up so I can do this.
Measured the running boards. Old trail boards 69". New trail boards 66". Doesn't sound like a lot but it does look funny

Rocker panel swap, child camera lol
So I just did the rocker panel swap to the lower profile ones, and was just wondering about if XREAS will interfere with running board installation or if that’s just a slider problem. Short wife is now a pregnant short wife so she doesn’t want to climb. She likes the look of the more “aggressive” boards that look like 0 degree sliders. I asked a question on some Amazon products and they said they wouldn’t fit because bolt holes were in different locations? I thought they’d all be the same or close model to model.

X-reas should have no bearing on running board installation. The hydraulic lines run along the frame. And many have installed other model's running boards, so I can't see where bolt spacing would be different.
