Friday I was at my local Toyota dealer to visit their parts department. While there I asked a salesperson if they had any new 4Runners to look at. They had one. I took a few pics.

It stickered at $59,643.00, and there were some add-ons totaling $1,7XX.00, bringing the price to over 60K.

    Man I don’t know- That’s a lot of Moolah, over twice what I paid for my pre-owned / certified 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD that I bought in November 2023.

The thought of the 4 banger remains a turn off with me. I’ll have to drive one some day. My neighbor recently bought a brand new 2024 Tacoma from this same dealer. I got to drive his Tacoma. I didn’t particularly care for that new Tacoma. The steering felt weird to me, and it seemed noisier than my ‘22 T4R. I suppose it would just take some getting used to.

I’m perfectly satisfied with my ‘22. We just got it paid off a couple weeks ago as well. I’m figuring on keeping my ‘22 for a very long time to come.

This was my first ever look at a 6th gen in person. I haven’t seen any out on the roads yet.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I went to my local dealership, for my free 20k mile service. I decided to wait while they serviced it. They had a 2025 TRD Off Road (non premium). It had about $1800 in add-on's, PLUS a $5k "Market Adjustment". The total was (I think?) about $62k.

It was a nice color combo but didn't have leather or the large infotainment screen. It was 4wheel drive though. But $62k and no leather? Dang.

While I was there I did find out that the local dealership was offering $30 oil changes for life (7yrs/100k miles) if you meet certain criteria. Which I do, so boom. After my free service is up in 5k miles I can get $30 oil changes! I think I'll go up there every 3,000.

Hey there Borracho, yeah those “market adjustments” are a crock. One thing I give our local dealer credit for is they don’t do market adjustments. They may tack on accessories to pad their pockets- window tint, etc., I should have taken a picture of the add on accessories sticker- I forget what all they had as add-on accessories on this particular 6th gen.

This dealership is great for vehicle servicing, but they rape (or try to) customers when selling them cars. The add-on's were: Pinstriping, Nitrogen, ZakTek, Clearcoat & Window Tint. Only the 4Runner has the markup. The Land Cruisers sitting on the lot were being discounted.

I can't fault them, much. They know they have a hot product and are trying to make as much money as possible while they still can.

That's more than what many new GX460s were going for in 2023 when they were being phased out.

I can't imagine loan payments on that with even 8-10% interest rate unless one puts down a 1/3 or more down payment.

We just picked up a Base SR5 yesterday. I put my order/preference in about 4 weeks ago. So for a base with nothing extra outside of the ToyoGuard BS and taxes were OTD for about $47,900. The base is the way to go unless you need a bunch of tech. Ive always done my own lifts and tires so I wanted a clean slate. I think the 14" screen is tachy to me and the 8" fits perfect. The 4 cyl is actually more powerful than I expected. Its not any louder than the old V6 unless you hit WOT. The suspension is smooth on road and gets stiff over bumps and ruts. It will be my wifes daily driver but I drove it about 60 miles yesterday and am impressed. If you are around the Clearwater florida area hit up a salesman named Chris Eldridge @ Clearwater Toyota. I cant say how impressed I was with the entire process.

Using Tacoma as a guide, it’s important to wait for the discounts. Two points to consider:

1.) A lot of us who bought a ‘23 or ‘24 (or pre 2020) below sticker are scratching our collective heads at the new prices, but….shortly before that, record numbers of people were happily paying over sticker on all trims, and $70k for lime green pro’s. You better believe that Toyota noticed. Shame on a lot of us?

2.) Used 4Runner prices have shot up so quickly that you can now start to argue that a discounted all-new 4R will represent a far better value than an inflated used 4R riding on 20yo technology.

It was so much easy to test drive the 2025 4runner. I checked 2. The sales person seems little desperate. I could have driven every 2025 4runner in the lot. They had SR5, TRD Sport, TRD ORP. But TRD Pro and Trail Hunter was not even on build phace.

Also saw crazy discounts for Tundra and Tacoma. I feel like Toyota is struggling a little now.

You could buy 2-3 used 4runner,taco,tundras for that price

Hell you could start a small business for 60k

Boy do I disagree with the notion Toyota is struggling. If Toyota is struggling then show me a manufacturer that is not.
I have 4 dealerships within a 30 min drive and to get a salesperson that is not with a customer, well it’s busy. I purchased a 25 4Runner this weekend. I had to order from an allotment and got lucky by having it delivered in 4 weeks. Everything on the lot is sold. I was lucky enough to get mine at MSRP but many of the other dealers were adding MAs. We drove the LC and considering all things the 4Runner is a better buy and possibly a better all round vehicle. If you want better deals on higher trims I would wait a year or do what we did and get a base SR5. We were OTD in the high 40s with everything we wanted on the car.

WOW !!! $60K++ for a new 4R ? I'm sure that more than a few of us are glad to have purchased late Model 5th Generation 4r's. I purchased my 21' ORP/MR for 42K (List was 44K) at the 11th hour just before the crazy pricing started. It just now turned 25K miles. So it appears that the same trim level for 2025 would cost me about 20-Grand more than it did just 4 years ago ? No Thanks. I'll keep mine.

Market Adjustment: Just FREE extra $ for the dealer. Often used when there is a price negotiation to use as the (imaginary) discount point so the prospect is still paying full-boat for the vehicle - and any add-ons.

Dealer Add-Ons: Similar story as above. There is likely a 50% mark-up on these add-ons.

"Boy do I disagree with the notion Toyota is struggling."

What I recently read: For at least two decades, the number one selling vehicle in the USA was the Ford F150 Pickup Truck. Not surprised. But Ford now just lost that crown to Toyota. Best selling vehicle in 2024 was the RAV4.

But she has to wait till the turbos cool down before she run for her appointment.

Lucky that my wife can hit 100+ on her 5th gen and run for the appointment without waiting.

Yeah, here in PA and NJ where I've been shopping they are giving away Tacoma and Tundra. There are a few Land Cruisers. No Highlanders. Rav4s can be had. 4Runners are slowly starting to come in this week. Wish I could live with a pickup. And agree with OP that the 4Runner price tag is kinda nuts but I'm getting one anyway. Toyota isn't hurting, I've had a few Toyota sales people complaining that they don't have enough cars to sell. Compare that to the Fords I was shopping like the F150XLT that can be had for 15-20% off MSRP. Toyota doesn't make enough cars and other manufacturers like Ford and Stellantis make too many. Toyota and Chevy lots around here are mostly empty, I believe they are doing a better job of managing supply and demand.

I swear these things look weirder in pictures than they do in person. I didn't love it in person, necessarily. But I thought it looked better than the pictures.

You've never done a hundred in a 4runner? I have in my 4th gen and my 5th gen. I don't even know if my second gen had enough power to hit 100, lol.

Joking aside, the 5th gen feels surprisingly comfortable at 80 to 90 mph.

They might have come off the trade-in. IIRC, some dealers even have plates they can put on right at delivery, also.

In TX you can keep your old plates if it's the same type of vehicle. Like suv to suv or pickup to pickup, etc

It looks like a temporary CA plates. They print those at the dealership. Then the DMV sends permanent plates in the mail.

Same in Wisconsin. I figured it was like that everywhere.

I had to get new plates when I went from a 4Runner to a Taco. But, I was able to keep the Taco plates when I switched back. They probably don't care because I'm overpaying for registration.

Oh, yeah. They're never going to complain about people paying too much.

I sometimes think I kept them just to prove a point to the folks who get upset when I refer to the 4Runner as a truck. :D

Maybe I'll get some vanity plates eventually and stop paying truck rates.

i do the same, but technically you cant put them on the vehicle until you get your new tags since its not in the dmv system with the new VIN and vehicle. your plate will still point to your old vin and vehicle.
