I'm sure they're not an especially rigid material like the mudflaps so some action I'm sure they'd take.

I'd personally would love to try out a ratchet DIY airdam for science! But that's effort and material, I'm already tracking MPG so maybe someday.

I've been saying this for years, the new 4runners are too large. They should be 4th gen sized or less. They wouldn't have to resort such ridiculous measures.

It's bad for off road, it's bad for price, it's bad for emissions. Thanks CAFE

Unfortunately, the pieces I cut off in May of 2020 went directly into a dumpster. So, they're either in a landfill right now, or maybe floating around in the ocean.

Yeah what’s up with those fenders? 100% they get scratched easily within a week of driving that vehicle.

The 4th and 5th gen are essentially the same size. The real jump came when going from the 3rd gen to 4th gen. The 6th gen is also a pretty good jump from the 5th.

Hardest thing to do is to replace a vehicle that’s been out for a while and deservedly loved by its owners. Given that first hurdle, and considering the facts that Gen6 was developed in a time of high inflation, tough emission regulations and mandated electrification (and personally having sampled the goods…), I’ll say Toyota pretty much nailed it.

Effortless, accessible power and a significant improvement in mpg will be appreciated every single time you drive it. Albeit Gen5 is handsome circa 2014, owning a vehicle that others won’t assume is already 10 years old has its own intrinsic merits for many. Styling is subjective, however Tacoma owners who expressed similar initial criticisms about Gen4 (fenders, proportions..) now frequently declare that the 2024+ is the best looking truck on the market. And, it is.

That leaves reliability, which will also directly influences resale. Safe to say that I doubt anyone here would immediately bet against Toyota/Tahara on that one.

[Letterkenny] To be fair... [/Letterkenny] When the 5th gen design arrived, I thought it was kinda ugly. A friend and coworker bought one, so I got to see it several days a week. It grew on me after a while. And now, roughly ten years later, I think hers is a darned good-looking truck (and so is mine!).

Presently, I think the 6th gen is... well... kinda ugly. Let's see what a few years' worth of seeing them on the road brings.

5th gen pre facelift WAS ugly. The facelift gave it the iconic look I think.

The hood is probably longer to increase the size of the crumple zone.

Same thing happened to the 3rd gen Tacoma and everyone was bitching about it back then too.

I have one in my garage. Actually two. One unpainted, and one painted from my deer collision in '23.

Try a salvage yard. Maybe a 4Runner got totaled in a rear collision.

That's the new automotive norm now, overly puffy appearance but paper thin material with a multitude of sensors at the edges, any 5 mph fender bender results in a 5k repair bill.

I have 3rd gen taco not 5th gen 4runner. I had 4th gen 4runner before, had to give it away due to horrible frame rust. I would not trade my 3rd gen taco for 4th gen, and same goes if i had 5th gen 4runner. My GF has 2024 off road taco and we are going to trade it for land cruiser

The same statement applies to the last two model years' (three?)worth of Subaru Outbacks.

The bonus is then you have the pleasure of keeping a black truck(height wise) clean.

My white ones I park in my garage and I wash them maybe once a year. I had a black sedan ones, that thing was parked inside as well at the time but was dirty 30 minutes after I wash it and waxed it.

did the 6th gen get rid of all the wheeling dials, and 4wd stick?

one of my favorite extinct features of the Trail/Offroad

the 4wd shifter is gone, I think the only vehicle left on the market with that are the Jeep JL/JTs and Ineos. Probably saved Toyota several tens of dollars to use a dial only set up in order to keep price affordable on the OR, ORP and Pros.

Speaking of seeing things in person; I stopped at a Toyota dealer on Monday while I was running around between jobs.

I think it looks better in person. But, I still don't love it.

If my 4Runner ever goes the way of the dodo, and I can afford it, I think the Grenadier will be my next vehicle.
