    Hello fellow 4Runnerites!

I’m looking into getting a dashcam as I have already witnessed 2 accidents happen in front of me today. What dashcam do you use? Do you have a front and back combo? Show me your set ups and provide recommendations!

I had a Garmin Mini 2 for a couple years which was fine but between a rare glitch where it refuse to power on (I believe it was fixed by an update) for an unknown period of time and the sensor failing due to some screws loosening internally means I would not recommend it.

I bought a few extra minutes by pulling it apart and tightening them again but I don’t think it’s good design I’d trust to last years especially combined with no display to see the sensor acting up.

The app is fine but transfer over Wi-Fi worked but was surprisingly slow so I pull the SD card anyway to grab footage.

I bought a host of VIOFO A119 V3’s for four cars in the extended family including myself around the $100 mark each give or take a few and they’ve been fine so far but I can’t speak for longevity yet. No rear cameras for any of them. I imagine if there’s a fundamental flaw sneaking I’ll certainly find out about it.

For my SO I still have an Aukey DRA1 installed from a few years ago and it’s still going strong. All I’d change is that I’d want it to be attached by adhesive instead of a suction cup which falls off every couple to few months.

I recommend a Dongar power adapter that hooks into the autodimming mirror power connection, it makes for a much cleaner install but you do need to unscrew and lower the overhead console.

    FitCamX for the win!

I love the OEM look of it. I sometimes forget it's there. Oh, and the 4k quality is awesome. If you do buy this brand, get a bigger Micro SD card right away, the card it comes with is small and can't hold that much data. Especially if you record in 4k. It's very easy to install. It takes longer to remove it from the box than it does to get it connected.

    ^This.

Used to use the Garmin but switched to the FitcamX. Video quality is better and it's very easy to use.
Plus it blends right in and looks OEM.

This was discussed few times, but still post mine.
I have older Viofo and Blackvue dashcams on my 4runners.
    The benefit I see them is;
    1. I can clearly see if they are working or not. Can see the recording light and also gives an audible confirmation at start up.
    2. Its low profile hard to notice from outside
    3. If they ever fails I can replace in seconds
    4. No wiring to existing sensitive stuff like mirror or toyota safety connect wiring.

In 2025, both these have never models with new Sony Starvis 2 sensor that have better dynamic range on video.

    Edit -
Here are 2 pics of Viofo on silver 4R and Blackvue on Grey 4R.

That was the biggest selling point for me, the OEM look. In the past I had a Garmin Mini 2, and it was nice. Good-ish quality, but I hated that it used a suction cup and when I would clean the inside of the windshield, I would always knock it off center. I had to open the app and center where I wanted it to be.

The FitCam is always in a fixed position, and the 4k quality is amazing. Just asking anyone who saw the video of my fender bender back in December!

Oh, and just because you have a dashcam doesn't mean you're safe. There are a lot of idiots out there without insurance or not enough insurance. Make sure you get un-insured & under-insured coverage on your policy.

I see it comes W/64GB memory card, doesn't offer to but larger storage card on the Amazon one I'm looking at. The Fitcamx 4k site does not show Integrated for the 4Runner & they only have the 64G card.:notsure: https://fitcamx.com/collections/toyota?page=2

Blackvue DR900S-2CH but it's meh. The Thinkware I had before provided better video quality even though it was only 1080P. At some point I'll switch back to Thinkware.

I bought a 256 gig card for mine. I set up the FitCam to record in 4k for 5 min intervals. That is an 880MB file. My commute to/from work can be up to one hour, so I need a lot of space. The 256 card allows me to store about 2 weeks worth of video's on it.

I have the Garmin Mini 2. It is tiny and completely hidden behind the rear view mirror. I wish it was higher resolution. Cars don’t have to be very far away before the license plate is unreadable.

Nice cam, one of mine is the Q800 Pro. It's in my daughters Rav4, I can get on the app, see where she's parked, see how fast she's driving and actually watch real time video.

Coming up on two years with the Thinkware U1000. Been through some grueling desert summers and freezing winter weather. Really good video quality and I’m running mine with a 512GB Sandisk Extreme Pro Micro SD card.

Fantastic form factor tucks right next to the rear view mirror stem, proximity radar on the other side...barely visible from the inside and out. Rear camera I just used a patch of Scotch Extreme foam tape to the headliner fastener button.

I installed Viofo A129 Pro duo on friends Hyundai Palisade & Kia Telluride. Though it has older Stavis sensor its great. No issues for 2 years.

Haven't got my hands on Viofo A229 Pro. It has the new Starvis 2 sensor. I bet it has better dynamic range.

I have a Rexing in my other car. I don’t recommend it. It turns off all the time. Then you have to hard reset it to work again. Only to turn off again. Repeat cycle.

I have a Viofo A229 in my 4R and I like it better. It works well, no problems so far.

True this. Not sure what insurance he had but friend got hit by a G-Wagon and they ran. He grabbed the plates from his cam and called his insurance but G-Wagon was contacted, stated it wasn't them and insurance told him if driver doesn't claim fault it would still be claimed as uninsured/underinsured. Wild times
