At the risk of thread drift... how do you do that? I'm curious!

As for what I did to my 5th Gen this weekend:

This weekend brought a 400-mile family-visit road trip.
A nearby church held its [roughly] semiannual chicken-and-dumplings event. Twelve bucks to the church for an absolutely deeee-licious meal and some incredible desserts. Can't beat it!

Stargard GPS, a dealer-installed option that wasn’t optional. But gives me a piece of mind since lots of cars are stolen in SoCal.

I think that’s the thing that large dealerships use to locate a vehicle in their lot and then make the buyer pay for. I wonder if it’s on my truck. They tried to sell it but I told them to remove it. Is there a way to determine if they just left the equipment? How much is the monthly subscription? With so many flock cameras here the ROI may not be worth it.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

To hell with that pricey monthly crap. I bought an Apple Air Tag and hid it in my SloRunner. If you don't have an iPhone, they make them for Android phones too. I highly recommend one.

If my truck is ever stolen, I can track it. If I leave it at the dealership or a body shop, I can track it. Sure, I can't find out how fast they are going, but this is a slow ass truck. I just want to track it.

No monthly payment but it was part of the dealer’s added charges, I can’t remember how much exactly. I get an insurance discount for having it.

I think it’s connected to the OBD port, I’ve seen a few posts here, with pics, that asks what they were and people pointed out that it was the tracking device. I can’t remember what posts though.

AirTag is useful, I have hidden ones in our trailer, my other car, and my purse.

But it’s reliant on another iPhone’s Bluetooth to connect to. I believe it’s only 100 feet outdoors. And if it finds another iPhone to connect to, that person gets notified that there’s an AirTag near them, who can disable the connection. So if you’re too far away and no iPhone, then your SOL.

It's not totally reliant on just iPhone's. If an iPad, MacBook or Apple Watch are nearby then it pings the AirTag and gives me its last location. Since there are roughly 1billion Apple products, there's a good chance it will ping and give me recent data. Does it give me an exact address? No. But I get a very great idea where it was or is.

GeoFencing is great if I had a vehicle worth a million bucks or if I'm tracking a fleet of vehicles (like cop cars, 18 wheelers, service vehicles, etc). I can do that in real time and it gives me a lot of information. But there is additional software and a monthly fee included.

If you want a very cheap solution for one vehicle, then the Air Tag is the way to go. You pay a one time fee. Oh, you can disable the speaker so it doesn't make a "Chirp" when others detect it.

All my vehicles have AirTags. I wish my insurance provider would give me the “AirTag” discount reward. It’s simple & my taco, corolla & 4Runner have them :amen:

But doesn't the AirTag still notify the perp that it's there?

Yes, but you can disable the speaker so there is no noise, but it will still tell someone that there is an Air Tag nearby....they just won't know where exactly. I have mine hidden in a very hard to find and hard to get to spot.

Thieves will know it's in the truck, but won't know where. Maybe that'll be a big enough deterrent to get them to leave my ride alone.

Thanks to @MS1181 for setting me up with a nice pair of Bi-LED headlights to upgrade my 2020. Just installed them today, and found a nice level parking garage to aim them!

Not much other than putting back seat cover on so my wife can toss her hand weights and stinking workout
mat onto the back seat. Yesterday I vacuumed out her food crumbs from my center console.

Oh, I did drive it to work out this morning. Weights seemed a little heavier today, must have absorbed the moisture
from all the rain we had.

It's really a maintenance inspection. I believe they will charge you for anything that needs to be done.
