I have a 2011 black 4runner SR5 with 125,000 miles on it. Am original owner. Everything is in great working order and all looks good interior and exterior. My dilemma is whether to keep it for a few more years or sell and buy new. Again, truck is in perfect working order, no repair issues, no dents, bangs or body work to fix....just 14 years old and have the itch for something new, but should I bite the bullet and just hang on to what works?

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Dude. If it ain't broken, don't replace it. Drive that thang' till the wheels fall off. A Toyota w/125k miles is barely broken in. That truck has (at minimum) 10yrs of life left.

P.S. Post up pictures of this bad-ass rig!

I have a 2011 Limited with 190K, in similar condition as what you describe. I have no intention of selling it. Ever. It's paid for, it's solid, it still looks good, and most importantly it keeps doing exactly what I ask of it. I think you know my answer.

    Welcome here Jim!
It’s a good place to ask this question.

2011 with no dents and dings!?
    Amazing.
I could understand wanting to sell while you can still gets decent coin. Whatever you do just don’t buy a new 6th gen, yet.

Ditto the above posts. 125k on the Gen 5 is nothing. I'd take a Gen 5 in perfect shape with a 100% known history over a new Gen 6 (or anything else with a 4Cyl turbo) any day.

Well, I never plan to sell mine, so my answer is keep.

Even if the day comes where I need something more fuel efficient, smaller, etc. it will just have to be an addition, not a replacement.

Keep it. But, to play on to your itch, maybe (if it makes sense for you) pick up a second used car for fun (and perhaps better mileage). Perhaps something fun with a manual transmission. There are ALOT of very nice used cars sub $10k that are reliable, easy to work on, and fun. Examples: E39 BMW 5 series (1997-2003), older Cayennes, many variants of Mercedes, Miatas. Just a thought, but it's a rabbit hole and before you know it you have 3 extra cars you don't need. Alot of said older fun cars can be insured through Hagerty for full coverage (not basic, legit like 250-500-250 limits) for under $300 / YEAR. It's a life hack, Hagerty is awesome.

Your 4R sounds like a gem. All those years with such a wonderful car and I'd fear you'd miss it if you got rid of it.

Ever since my mid 20's I've always been in the 70-80k miles (1 exception 93 Mustang GT had 115k when traded) I trade even when there's nothing wrong with them no matter what make. this is my 5th Toyota, 08,12 FJ's 15 Tacoma A/C TRD Sport, 18 TRD Or. But that's just me. It's your $$ spend it how you feel or don't. Good luck with what ever you decide. I wouldn't buy a 6th for at least 3-5 years of proven data.

Take the money you would spend on a new one and sock it away in a Roth IRA over time or whatever save it for your retirement!

Keep that truck you have and enjoy it. As others said she’ll keep going. You’ll thank us years down the road and have more saved for retirement and you’ll enjoy that truck you got.

Give Toyota a couple of years to work out the bugs in 6th gen, then re-evaluate in 2027.
