Just purchased a VSA from Jerry for my 24 4runner after finding his name on this forum and the Tacoma World forum. I am glad I didn't purchase the VSA from the dealer I purchased the 4Runner from as he initially quoted me double of what I just paid, though he did bring his offer down some after I first declined. I told the finance guy I wanted to do some research on other warranties, he told me once I leave it is a used vehicle and no longer eligible, glad I waited and decided to do some research. I bought the 10 year/ 125,000 mile one. I am sure the VSA will time out before the mileage hits.

Aren’t most issues you’d address on a 4Runner ones that most people that drive average miles would only see pop up after the 10 year mark?

Only early question marks for me are maybe the electronic safety gizmos and a few sensors? But a big benefit of this platform is its exceptional reliability.

Granted I put on way less than average miles so these kinds of warranties make no sense for me anyway. But I’d probably do it if I drove it over 10K miles a year.

$1800.00, my main concern is all the electronics/ safety features.

And lied to you about leaving and no longer being eligible. You can but the thing while the vehicle is still under the 3/36 warranty. You should let Toyota know. Ridiculous.

I purchased mine from Troy Dietrich. His prices were almost identical to Jerry Johnson’s. The only difference was Troy did not charge a fee for using a credit card. This was his pricing in January for Platinum coverage and zero deductible.

Just purchased a VSA from Jerry yesterday, very nice guy, enjoyable to talk to. $1360 for a 10/100,000 mile extended Warranty. The dealership I went to when I picked up my 24 4Runner TRD ORP was charging over 3k 7/75,000 and would not negotiate.

    thanks for this recent info
My 4runner is supposed to be here May 14 or 15, and I have to face the warranty sales pitch before then

    appreciate the info here...

Seems like an obvious question to me, but why would I buy an extended warranty when buying?
That warranty I just paid is for running the same time as the factory 36 month warranty...
Why wouldn't one just wait til 35 months in, then buy the extended warranty rather than paying during existing warranty?

This is from another post on the first page.

I just read the VSA brochure Jerry sent me. You can buy these up to 36 months after vehicle sold. The warranty expires after the time period selected is reached measured from 0 miles. So a 100,000 mile warranty expires when odometer reaches 100,000 miles. Not 100,000 miles after you bought it.

    I understand that point,
but if I buy it with zero miles, then sell the car (or it gets hit by a train) 35 months later, then they pro-rate my warranty from day 1...
I am paying extra for time already covered by the factory warranty

of course, 3 years from now the price may be doubled...

This is true. Since I only drive my 4Runner about 7K miles per year, I basically purchased peace of mind for an additional 7 years. I watched a video on a guy with a 2020 TRD Pro who was on his 3rd master cylinder (covered under the factory warranty). So I looked up the price without labor and figured with just one repair I would pretty much be a break even. I would recommend checking the entire liftgate area for rust before the factory 3/36 warranty expires because that will not be covered afterwards.IMG_0631.png

Bus]. Question, is that 100,000 additional miles or to a total of 100,000 miles? I bought a 23 Limited two weeks ago with 60,000 miles on it. Dealer wanted $4,000+ for the extended warranty, When I said no it was $2,800, then I really said no. I didn't delve into what it actually covered. My Tundra has almost 200,000 miles on it and has never been in the shop but the 4R has a lot more technology.

Total, so you would only be getting 40,000 miles or 10 years from it’s original sale date (first owner) whichever comes first.

I would like to make it known that some fecklesscuck on this thread complained to his local Toyota dealer (who passed their complaints to corporate) showing prices people foolishly posted here and demanding that his dealership meet those prices.

Fecklesscuck and indiscreet idiots screwed me and others from legitimately buying a VSA without paying an additional $2,000 or $3,000 in markup.

Now that I need to buy another VSA, I'm personally screwed. And I can tell you this much, I have been searching for someone who will sell one on the cheap and I won't share it with anybody here. I don't want their business to be meddled with by some loser.

There is a chance if somebody who has been promoted on this website doesn't get back to you, it could be a direct effect of what has happened.

    Mancunts suck!

I am glad I purchased a Platinum extended service agreement for my 2017 SR5.
A couple months after my powertrain warranty expired I needed a tranny. The bills from dealer to Toyota were about $8,000. Long story, anyone interested please pm me.
The Platinum warranty covers lots of components.
Your newer model has even more electronic gizmos to fail. Get a copy of the agreement from dealer and review it. See partial pages attached below:

Damn, I bought this for long-term reliability and now this thread has me paranoid. Purchased my 2024 back in April 2024 and it has just over 5,000 miles on it. To be honest I have never spent over $8,000 on a car since I started driving in 2000 (I'm 40 now) - this has been the biggest vehicle purchase I have ever made and I feel like I am being nickel and dime'd in areas I'm not used to (higher registration fees, higher insurance (because of comprehensive and collision), Mods (of course I need them!), and PPF to protect the thing. Adding an extended warranty on top of it now? I need some sleep.

Also, I'm planning on doing all of the maintenance myself for the life of the vehicle (oil change, air filter, transmission fluid, coolant, tire rotations, etc...). On top of adding WoolWax to the under carriage, cat shields, some electronics mods (stereo upgrade, anytime camera, LED upgrades, Remote Start), how does the Warranty even hold up without someone finding a way to get out of it? Will my detailed Excel spreadsheet of my maintenance be enough?

Anyone just fine with the standard warranty from Toyota? I'll admit, the electronics on the newer vehicles makes me nervous, but I'm also handy. For instance, if the stock head unit goes out I'll just use it as an opportunity to upgrade from Crutchfield and install it myself.

    Keep meticulous records.

As for electronics... The optical safety system might cost (let's imagine) $300. Calibration costs $1,000. That's why i got mine.

Radars, sensors and optical all are not user serviceable. Transmission control modules, ECUs and the other computers take special software to reprogram...

One failed radio and your policy pays for itself.

Thanks, something to think about. I also don't drive my 4runner as much since I got a 2nd beater vehicle (older civic) that I use for work - the 4runner is my nice weekend vehicle. I bought about 10 months ago and only have a little over 5,000 miles on it. I estimate this will pick up a bit more an I may still average about 8,000 or so a year on it... still less than the average. Trying to find out the best deal in terms of warranty and coverage. I plan on keeping this for at least 15-20 years as I have zero interest in another SUV.

I am in a similar state of mind and stage in life as you. I don't use mine for commuting so I know any extended warranty I buy will be useless since the duration on the warranty will run out before anything major breaks.

So I don't bother with extended warranty. At our age bracket if we don't have a decent chunk of cash set aside for incidentals that could easily cover a repair or two, what are we even doing owning a 4Runner.

I too have a beater(or two) for the monotonous stuff LOL.

I can read between the lines and that sucks. I was careful not to disclose anything that hadn’t already been posted (in fact I mentioned to him that prices were being posted and he didn’t seem to have an issue with that). I think the person who f**ked everyone is the person that pushed the issue at their local dealer. That sucks because I was getting ready to send business his way for some other car brands that fell under his umbrella. Sad to hear this.

My 4Runner will hopefully be the last vehicle I ever buy, so I purchased the extended warranty which takes me out to 10 years/100k miles. I think how long you plan to keep it should be the deciding factor.

My wife is looking to replace her 2008 accord and I told he unless we get a second 4runner, anything we choose will be leased not purchased. This is due to my concern about the complicated new systems necessary to meet Govt. mandates.
By the way, all 4runners are built in Japan at a factory dedicated to runners & land cruisers.

Absolutely, it’s the price of your first repair, then all the rest are covered.
