I finally made decision and placed order today for Yoko G015 255/75R17 SL.

I Was considering larger like 275/75-80, but I was not wanting to chance rubs and mods needed. The Reviews for this G015 tire spoke to the most practical aspects of driving for me such as the ride, noise, wet traction, MPGs and highway which is 99% for me. Not the most aggressive AT look available but looks good. Excited for new tall and skinny paired with Eibach front level. All going on Monday!

I would go with the 255/75 C load. Those will fit nice on the narrower Pro rims, and are about half an inch taller than the 265s.

I'm in the same boat as you come. I really want to run the 255/80, but the e-load really turns me off.

After looking at tires, unfortunately it looks like nothing 255 is going to work. The only 2 tires available are Toyo AT3 and BFG K02. Don't want either of those tires. The Duratrac does come in 255 but it's SL or E. The Baja Boss doesn't come in the size with a non-E rating either. Not happening.

If only they'd produce a 255/75 R17 in XL I'd be all over it.

There are quite a few other tires that come in that size, it's the original equipment Jeep Wrangler size.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the C rating, if you look at the actual weight ratings SL often has a higher load rating than a C.

I'm not worried about weight rating- I'm worried about durability offroad. I also spend all winter skiing, so I will only buy 3 peak rated tires. I either want Duratracs or Baja Boss A/T and I'm not putting an E load tire on a 4R. I didn't even run E loads on my lifted Silverado or my Raptor.

Okay, I got you. Yeah, it's a shame that the Baja AT doesn't come in this size.

How about the Firestone Destination XT? It's severe snow service rated and available in an LTC in 255/75/17.

You're worried about off-road durability but you won't consider an E load tire, even though the E load is the most durable tire for off-roading. This makes no sense to me. If you want the durability, you have to make some compromises. I have 255/80 17 E load Falken Wildpeaks on my 4R.

Looks like I am going to go with the 255/75 Toyo AT3s. I want the 255/80s but stock suspension and Pro wheels - i don't want to remove mud flaps or play with things. 32s will work and be a compromise. The 33s do look damn good though.

Falken AT4s have performed horribly when it comes to testing in ice and snow. I wouldn't put them on a child's toy. Toyo AT3s seem to have a ton of great reviews and testing data - so that makes the decision easy.

TFL tested these in the snow earlier this year, they were neck and neck with K03, and both did quite a bit better than the Falken AT4W.

The new Bridgestone Dueller Ascent is available in 255/75/17 C load, and is also 3PMS rated as well. Those look good, though a little more road biased.

Firestone destination doesn't do well on ice. Personal experience pulling into my driveway.

I wonder if it’s a formulation issue, tire pressure or tread/sipes difference that’s giving you issues?

If you're basing your statement from that TFL video, there are at least 6 other vids contradicting those results. I have the AT4 Wildpeaks and they are very good in the snow. There is a 19% grade hill 1/2 mile from my place. I stopped half-way up the hill in 4 inches of snow for a test and walked right up.

    @Stoney Ranger
    Are your AT4s 255/80?
Outta my list, those n the duratracs I’ve mainly boiled down to…

    I’m going from 285/70 KO2s

There's 3 other online tests affirming the TFL results too so.......yeah not buying them. They don't come in LT255/75/17 either - only 255/80 E load. Nope.

I've had Toyo AT3's since my 4runner was new and theyve been great. 41k miles in just over 2 years. I use 4wd when it snows...sometimes. The last storm we got last year I drove to work in 2wd with no problems (and when I got in, a coworker with a 4runner and snow tires complained about how bad the roads were).

Similar here (shows up as 10 degree slope) about a mile from my office. Last 2 storms I've walked up it in 2wd with the Toyos. My gripe with the Falkens are their weight.

    Sorry if already mentioned
Fit on the factory spare? If you have the steelie?
I’d assume my 16 n your 18 would have same wheel, have to check

determining if I should look for another trail wheel for spare
How that’d play with spacing under the truck with 255/80/17 there

Isn’t E load for towing? Stiff sidewalks are for heavy loads. They’ll have less flex when you air down.

They are stiffer because they are stronger, which means less sidewall damage off road.

They're on the factory snowflake wheels. The spare is on a matching wheel and I have a high profile rear bumper. I had no problem fitting it.
