Hi there I have a '23 but right now I am trying to help my friend replace the lock actuators on his '05.

I have tried searching the web and this forum for some solidified information but no luck just yet.

His driver door currently works but the other 3 doors along with the tailgate do not. I have been doing some research and it looks like it's best to purchase OEM from toyota? I see some on Amazon etc. but there are reports of them not lasting very long (e.g., under a year). They are of course cheaper but this is something we do not want to have to do again any time soon.

    Couple questions:

Firstly, are the lock actuators the same for all 4 passenger doors? I see on the toyota website they have "rear door left hand / right hand", but the part number is the same.

Secondly, I can't seem to find the part for the tailgate. Below is a link to the parts I'm finding when searching "lock actuator" on the toyota website, and also below is a link to a youtube video for installation of the passenger lock actuators.

Any recommendations for actuators that you have had luck with?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Welcome to the forum from North Carolina.

Have you checked/inspected the master door lock switch assembly. I have heard about possible wire damage at the flex loom lower part of the door. I see it highly unlikely for three doors to all fail at the same time.

Hi there thank you so much for your reply. We have not checked that yet, however, the locks didn’t go out at the same time they’ve slowly been going out over the years since the vehicle is now 20-years old, so I have a feeling they just need to be replaced?

    Thank you!

Write up on actuator replacement I was looking at this a number of years ago as some of the actuators in my niece's '05 T4R were inop. The problem is generally with the small motors in the actuators which can be replaced inexpensively - the actuators themselves are pricey. Following write up has actuator part numbers on post #1- I did not verify them. If I were to replace the entire actuator, I would likely go OEM for the reason you stated. Replacement of motor in actuator discussed in post #31, #39 and #43. She got rid of the truck so I never did the job although I bought the motors - just holding on to them in case of actuator failure in my T4R or Tundra. Post #43 references the following Amazon link for the motors. I think these are the motors I bought although the printing on the ones I have is FC-280PC 22125 7CH060. Check comments on the Amazon listing - a number of happy T4R owners.
