I dunno, the LC walked right up the wall first shot, it took Tommy 3 tries in the 4Runner. Roman has said multiple times that Tommy is a better driver off-road.

IMO it's close enough to not matter.

Too many..... Performance: • Magnusum Supercharger • Gibson exhaust with dual black tip • Pedal Commander * PowerBrakes • Suspension – Old Man Emu BP-51 front and back with Medium load coils • Tires: AT3 Faulken Wildpeak – 285/70/17 • Wheels: Relations Race Wheels, RR7-H with -12 offset • Full roof rack and ladder by Westcott Design (removed the stock Yakima basket) • Molle storage panels by Rago fabrication • Front light brackets by Rago • Illuminator light bracket by Rago (roof rack location) Lights • Morimoto front and back with sequential signals • Morimoto fog lights and side mirrors with sequential signals • 40” Baja design light bar for roof rack • 20” S8 Baja design driving combo (winch location) • Squadron sport baja design ditch lights • S2 Chase lights by baja designs (mounted on roof) In the bay: • Odyssey 34-PC Battery • SDQH Aluminum billet battery terminals and bracket • Switch Pro 9100 with aluminum tray • Anytime front and back camera • ARB twin compressor Recovery & Protection: • Smittybilt X20 synthetic rope winch • Factor 55 fairlead and flatlink • Southern Style Off-road (SSO) low profile bumper • SSO stage 2 high clearance wings • Weekend warrior recovery kit by treaty oak • RCI – skid plates – entire vehicle + catalytic converter protection wings Interior: • Nano Ceramic IR – Avery Dennison Window tint – all windows • Several phone mounts • Upgraded Rear Hatch lift gate struts (ladder is heavy) • Boom blaster horn switch (featuring La cucaracha)
I was hoping they were going to do hells gate and then really test the difference. The swaybar disconnect option on the LC would have come in very handy at the top of hells gate. IMO the skill of the driver matters most than all the gadgets in there....although lockers and decent clearance is almost a necessity in some of the difficult trials.
    Cool video!

I think the 4Runner wins because of pricing. Imo, the LC is too overpriced for what you get... the 1958 is too expensive. Most reviews of actual owners all say the same thing; the has too much cheap plastics. Ofc the SR5 has cheap plastics... but it's nearly $20k cheaper than a LC.

Imo, the 4Runner Limited non-hybrid is the better choice. You get FT 4WD with a really nice lux interior. Also, price barely went up in this trim.

Now, for hardcore overlanders, yes the LC250 is the better choice I will agree to that.

The new 4Runner has swaybar disconnect too though, on the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims

you cant get FT 4WD in the limited unless you get the hybrid

wait did they change that? before you could only get FT 4WD with only the hybrid?

I just built a non-hybrid Limited with FT 4WD on the Toyota website and it comes in around $58k. But, you can get a Limited with 2WD now, unlike the 5th gen it was just FT 4WD.

yeah i priced out the following the same as what i have my current platinum spec'd out and i came out

limited non HV = 55k invoice, 62k msrp
    limited hv = 58k invoice, 64k msrp
    platinum = 60k invoice, 66k msrp

since i can get invoice it really comes down to minor QoL differences between the trims and living with the lower power of the non hv vs the hv models.

leaning toward the HV model since i will need to it to pull a uhaul 6x12 trailer in the future from ga to nd. plus i dont know which way i will be going for future pulls, 17ft boat or 17ft camper once i hit retirement.

It really should have been named something like FJ Cruiser 2.0.

Not that I’m looking to buy…but a base 1958, and a gas 4runner ORP are nearly the same price. You’ll get saddled with a hybrid with the LC, but it’s equipped with better off-road hardware. And the interior is nice enough to not induce vertigo and dry heaves like the 4runner.

56.5k is a decent value for that LC250 in the context of the new Toyota vehicles. If I was in the market for a new vehicle I would buy that over the ORP just for the exterior design alone.

It absolutely is. From what I've seen, a LC250 is about $5-6k more expensive for similar (but usually not the same) stuff.

    Some key items for comparison:
    Cloth vs. Softex vs. Leather
    Radio 8" vs. 12.3" vs. 14"
    FT4WD vs. PT4WD

That's not even getting into the 3rd row, detachable sway bar, lockers, or hybrid discussions......to say nothing about the GX550.

For me, I think it's best that I just shop for the options I want (or don't want) and not worry about what the outside of the vehicle looks like. If I were buying today, and I'm not, I've narrowed it down to a TRD OR Premium ($57k) or a LC250 with softex ($63k).

My must-haves are seat heaters and a > 8" radio. Softex is strongly preferred due to kids sports. FT4WD is a nice to have if my wife is going to drive it in winter. Hybrid is a nice to have for school and sports drop off/pick up.
