I'm looking for a phone mount that doesn't require drilling into the dash, and will hold the phone in a horizontal position to video the trail ahead. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Get a dash cam. It can pull double duty! Recording your adventures on the trails, and record you while you're driving on the road so you have a record of what really happened in the event of an accident. No more he-said-she-said situations.

I recommend the FitCam. It looks OEM and takes 4k video.

I didn't consider a dashcam, and Googling the FitCamX I see that it costs only a little more than a phone mount. I've refocused my research, thanks!

Try a search on Amazon for suction cup phone mounts...there are ones for windshields and ones for top of dashboard. Some are clamp style others magnetic.

    Examples:

I watched several comparison videos on dash cams, and the video quality was pretty much the same with the majority of what I saw. I ended up getting the FitCamX because of the OEM look, I really like that you don't notice it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Welcome! I've had mine for over a year and it works flawlessly. I upgraded the micro SD card. The one that came with it was too small (on 64 gig) and it crapped out on me. I bought the Ultra Sans Disk/256gig. A 4k 5 min video is 880MB, so it's nice to have the space to record several days/weeks worth of video.

If it were me, I'd probably get one of those suction cup, longer arm ones and put it on when hitting the trail, but mostly if you want to do something fancier with the phone like a timelapse.

Otherwise you could just grab your trail footage from the dash cam depending. if you have enough recording time (function of footage size and memory capacity) you could do it daily.
