As with any turbo. Mpg goes off how much you get to into the boost. But do some 5k launches and you'll make up for that low end torque.

The thing comes with 33s already. Sell the stock tires on Facebook and get some ko2s and you got yourself a capable truck. SR5 for the win, comes with three rows too.

Actually, I don’t think we can say the SR5 is the one to get anymore, like you could say for the 5th gen.

If the 6th gen is anything like the 4th gen Tacoma, the Off Road is the only trim that comes with better and stronger high-angle CV axles. I believe there some other drivetrain components that are much better on the OR. Also the SR5 comes with a cheap picture of a single dial Tercel instrument panel, while the OR has a picture of two gauge instrument panel.

Also, until somebody can prove the SR5 comes with coil spring rear suspension, it’s best to assume it the SR5 comes with a leaf spring rear. :p;)

$44K with 4WD. It’s too bad you can’t add the bigger screen and fake leather power seats to it. If you could do that for a couple thousand more would be nice instead of having to jump way up to one of the premiums for a shit ton more money and unnecessary ad ons.

In my opinion - the bigger screen is a junk addon.

my buddy has an SR5 2nd gen Tacoma lifted on 33's. It goes everywhere my ORP (lifted on 33's) goes. Never had an issue with the SR5. He also lives on a dirt road where it snows every year. Never had an issue getting to his house. Snowed in several times though.

An SR5 Premium would have been a nice option.

Yup! I used to think if you had a wrangler, then you had a wrangler. Little did I know that they dont really share much of the basic drivetrain between trims (besides engine).
As long as folks dont buy the new 6th gen SR5 with the idea of being a starting point for trail rig. From now on it seems like it would make more sense to get an OR as a starting point, so you dont get stuck with the weaker drivetrain components of the SR5.

I’d rather have it than the Nintendo Game Boy looking thing it comes standard with.
In other news I actually saw a 6th gen on a car carrier on the Mass Pike this morning. Only one on the truck though. Hopefully we can see them in person at dealers soon.

Jeep gives you a lot of crap if you buy a cheap trim. Smaller axles, aluminum knuckles instead of cast iron, weak gear ratio, weak transfer case etc. Basically you are screwed, can't do much to that Jeep without spending a ton of money to replace everything. Though it could be a good deal to those who want to modify a modern Jeep into a beast on 40s and all.
Hopefully the SR5 is not that radically different than the offroad trims.

It might be cheaper to replace the parts then pay the crazy off road prices.

5th gen SR5 just needed a nice lift kit and good tires. It's suspension wasn't any different than the TRD Pro, apart from Fox shocks.

I like the review since he does a good job detailing how light it feels on the road. And if the balance is anything like the 5th gen, I believe him when he says it feels nimble. I bet you without the hybrid and 4wd, it’s so light that it feels like a completely different vehicle. Personal observation: I very much appreciate the dynamic balance of the 4runner on the road. Even though it’s odd to say that, I think a well balanced vehicle feels good whether it’s a sedan, coupe, or SUV. I remember the same thing with motorcycles, often times big dual sports were more “sporty” in road-handling than actual purpose-built sport bikes.

If I were in the market for a highlander type road wagon, a 2-row, 2wd 4runner, non-hybrid would definitely be on my list to test-drive.

eta: I like the look of cloth sr5 seats better than the other 4runner trims. It almost looks like beefy cloth used on the LC250 and the Crown.

If I recall, I think the other thing that is different on SR5 tacomas is that they have a smaller rear axle as well. But don’t quote me. Toyota may use the same de-contenting strategy on the 4runner, which is why it’s best to at least verify what they end up using on the SR5s.

If it were just CV axles maybe…. But if the rear axles end up being a different size in SR5s, probably not.

I couldn’t believe it when my buddy explained all this to me. If I were to get a Jeep, a Rubicon seems like the only good option. Wouldn’t mind the rubicon pickup version if I could get it with the huge tires necessary to make it look proportional.

I’m more worried about hitting a hole on the highway or even just the expansion joints on a bridge. Those are hard hits to the suspension at high speeds.

For Jeep you can get a build sheet online that lists every single part with part# for a VIN. Folks who are interested in the new sr4, you need to identify the most important parts man. You don't want to end up with a baby rear axle.

On the other hand in my area a 2 door JL Sport with the 3.6 V6 and 6 speed manual can be had for under 30k, msrped for 35k.

What can we get for 30k in trucks in toyotaland?
