Mine with their removable plastic fitting for 3/8 tubing. Wasn’t sure if the long nipple would fit.

Go with the longer one. It would make things much easier. Still plenty of room.

Not on mine. I have the short ones in the taco and the 4R. The short ones makes it a bit difficult to attach a hose or the other pieces shown above. That's all.

Do you use one of the white plastic pieces (either the straight one or the 90* one) that snap on to the short nipple and that the hose attaches to, or do you just attach the hose directly on the short nipple?

I find no need to connect tubing to your Fumoto valve.

    The stream is very predictable.

I hate to be a stickler here... But is loosening a drain bolt that much of a pain?

I've just never understood the need for this. Wouldn't this add an unnecessary failure point? What if the valve fails/ leaks... I just don't get it

Ive used Fumoto valves on every car I have owned. Had a 2012 Ford raptor with 195k on it and it never leaked a drop. Makes the oil changes incredibly easier and less messy. But if you have reservations then don't do it. I have them on 5 of our cars.

No. I use just a hose with a clamp so that I don't make a mess and the wind doesn't mess me up as the final drips sometimes tend to go slow. Something like this.

i agree. Used the nipple and hose first time then ditched it. Just drain direct from valve now.

None of it is such a pain. But for anal retentive OCD types like us who change our oil twice as much as the manual recommends, every step removed from the process helps. Loosening the bolt is just the first step. Then there’s:
    • Wiping the oil off your hands
    • Prying the washer off the bolt or pan, whichever it’s chosen to weld itself to.
    • Wiping oil off of bolt and pan
    • Installing new washer and bolt
    • Setting the torque wrench
    • Torquing down the bolt
    vs.
    • open Fumoto valve
    • Close Fumoto valve

Not to mention when laying on my back I gotta unscrew the bolt by hand while applying a bit of pressure, gauge when it’s unthreaded, pull it out quickly and sometimes oops! I dropped it or got oil on my arm. (the former isn’t an issue unless I’m using the cheap drain pan)

This isn’t an issue with the 4Runner since the drain is vertical but on the Honda’s I care for, the drain is sideways and I’m always needing to gauge how far to place the drain container so as to catch the oil, and then pull it back under the engine as the flow slows.

And on occasion the oil splashes off the container due to the shallow angle based on positioning. Edit: And exacerbated by being on ramps or jackstands.

Adding a Fumoto to those applications has certainly made things easier. If my drain containers are full, it can be routed right into a jug too.

Not only that, but if you accidentally over-fill it’s easy to drain a little oil out.

I don’t use mileage or time as a guide. I wait until visions of scored cylinder walls, sludge-covered valve trains, and oil as black as pitch all creep into my dreams. Then I change the oil, no matter time of day or night.

I think with the bolt there is a risk double gasketing, or forgetting the gasket, cross threading etc. One needs to use a torque wrent every time with the bolt. I was skeptical at first too. But once I saw the Fumoto in person, it is a simple ball lock valve, I do not see a way it could just fail. Either the body gets catastophically cracked, or the ball itself explodes. Any other failure would be a slow leak, which I am willing to live with given the convenience. I keep the original drain plug bolt with a new gasket in the vehicle, just in case.

Now that's a funny visual. Wake up in cold sweats. Tell the wife you have to go. Frantically go change the oil in the garage by flipping your oil drain switch.
Fumoto should have an ad campaign on this idea.

We had the long nipple valve on at 1st, (I mis-ordered the part number) when I looked at it I was skeptical, but took some cardboard and taped it to the skid pan, the valve made an indent on the cardboard and there was adequate room between the skid and valve. We have a few applications with Fumoto, upon ordering another valve with the same thread as the 4Runner, I ordered the short nipple, I decided to put the short one on the 4Runner and the long one elsewhere, but both will work on the 4Runner.

    I have the valvomax
I was between the Fumoto and the ValvoMax and decided to go with the ValvoMax as the device offers double leak protection. I’ve had mine for 5years and no issues at all. I’m very happy with it!
