Anyone have any recommendations on some type of OEM replacement parts for a 2016 Limited that has the electric shocks and struts? I was quoted over $5000 for replacement at the dealer. I’ve been looking, but I can’t seem to find the parts online. From what I understand the factory parts are produced by KYB? I don’t do much off-roading, but drive aggressively and like the way the truck handles with the original parts. Any ideas? 5 grand is a lotta cabbage!

There is nothing electronic about the system. Find somebody who lifted their vehicle and install their takeoffs for a next to nothing. Or get a basic upgrade package like Eibach or Dobinsons.

Umm...I don't think any 5th Gen has ever been equipped with electric shocks and struts. You have the XREAS system, which is a cross controlled hydraulic system. And yes, they are EXPENSIVE to replace, however over $5K is absolutely ridiculous, and you are getting screwed. Why the replacement? Are they leaking? Because that's the only reason to replace.

Do you know anyone with takeoffs? Lol. Do Eibach or Dobisons make a comparable system, with comparable ride and handling? From what I’ve read so far, people that like the ride and handling haven’t been happy when they changed the system. The only off-roading I’ve really done with this truck is camping, on the beach. This truck is so good in soft sand you can literally leave it in 2WD aired down (without the trailer of course), or in 4WD with the tires full. I was very impressed the first time. I actually blew out the seals after I picked up a new travel trailer that was a bit heavy for the truck. Had I known it had this hydraulic system I wouldn’t have towed it. What ya gonna do.

They’re leaking, and it’s not too bad yet, but I can feel a difference in the way it handles. At least they made it to 160,000 miles.

You're never going to get the same on road handling from an aftermarket suspension system that the XREAS offers. It's very good. But, you can increase off road prowess with aftermarket. There's always going to be trade offs. Where do you do most of your driving? My XREAS shit the bed at 155K. So, I ripped it out and went with an OME suspension system. It lifted the 4R about 3 inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear for a level stance. I also got rid of the 20 inch wheels and went with 18s. Overall I would say that off road performance has increased dramatically, while on road performance only suffered minimally. I have no dive under hard braking, and it corners pretty flat. The last thing I'll say is this: For $5K you can install a really nice aftermarket suspension system, or you can stick with OEM and redo the XREAS. Either way, the 4R is a very capable vehicle.

No, you literally can’t leave it in 2WD.

You can't "leave it in 2wd" unless it is a 2wd only Limited model. The 4wd Limited models are full time 4wd.
