The only time a man should wear a fanny pack is if he has a gun in it or is working as ski patrol. :D

    You’re right. Let me rephrase.
Although behind the competitors, there’s less of a difference with the 6th gen and others than a year ago with the 5th gen and others. So to the average person that stays on pavement the 6th gen is more likely to be considered than the 5th gen

Respectfully, I would argue that the 5th gen interior is noticeably better put together than the 6th gen.

The 6th gen interior looks like 5 teams each on their own continent worked separately all unaware what the dash board shape was supposed to be, and then tossed together at the last minute the best they can.

I am assuming you gotta push that little silver button at 10:00 in to get the dial to unlock and spin.
Kinda crazy its back close to your seat belt latch low on the console, weird placement but whatever

I guess this will benefit the buyers who are not able to reach the placement of the 5th gen 4wd selector for some reason.:notsure:

6th gen interior looks like hot garbage compared to the 5th gen, and it looks it inherited the Tacoma's floppy glovebox door.

To be fair you’re comparing a premium interior from the 5th gen TRD pro with a base 6th gen.
If we compare the interior of both TRD pros for example (or other premium trims like the trail hunter or platinum) , there are new/more modern features in the 6th gen.
Better camera quality/resolution, integrated trailer buttons (brake controller, trailer reverse assist, tow haul mode), preset AUX buttons, lift gate button, gas door button, wireless CarPlay, wireless charging, usb c, memory seats, ventilated seats, etc… (albeit the last 2 were available on the 5th gen limited).

Personally, I don’t like the big iPad like screen (but apparently a lot of soccer moms do) and I agree with you when you say the 5th gen interior is better put together. And is all that worth the increase price from the 5th gen? Not for me. What I paid for my brand new 5th gen pro would get me a base 6th gen off road hybrid. Even if i could trade mine with no extra cash for a brand new 6th gen pro I wouldn’t do it.
But I’m also not a soccer mom, and if I were to take a guess there will be a higher percent of soccer mom/random people (and less true 4Runner connoisseurs) driving the 6th gen than the 5th gen

*Big dial collar. The buttons on top of the dial don't rotate with it.

It's the opposite of the Bronco's layout where the buttons select 4WD while the dial collar selects the drive modes:

Holy sht that 6g interior is horrible. Where did that random blue come from? Reminds me of the blue painters tape they put all over your door panel, after getting windows tinted.

The way they made the infotainment screen a focal point was also unfortunate. If you have the peasant trim as demonstrated in this photo, you have a small screen with large plastic bezel. lol what a garbage

that row of blank peasant buttons in the center console. Everytime you look down to shift gear or drink a poor man’s gas station coffee, they remind you of the peasant trim lol

The 5th gen SR5 interior wasn't that different from the TRD Pro, a little cheaper and more spartan but still looks like the designers talked amongst themselves sometime during the process.

    here is the 2025 SR5. Modernized? I don't know.

this is what Toyota says you get for a 60k TRD ORP Hybrid

A higher trim 6th like Limited has better material but still looks like a parts bin interior

All the features you listed seems like the bare minimum for the 70k price point of Pros and Trail hunter and such.

Pay minimum of 50k for that OR trim and feel like you fell short in life. What a time to be alive.

Here is what you will stare at if you can't swing more than 50k for an OR in an SR5

The 2011-2012.5 with the JBL stereo and big screen was a NICE looking interior

The 2013+ vehicles all got the Entune radio and that was a basic looking system. I absolutely hated it and called it the ET head stereo.

The 2021+ vehicles that got the newer larger screen was way better thought out

The worst part of that hot mess is the 15" iPad standing tall and proud right in the middle of it all.

I will say this about my ORP 5th gen interior.... Yeah, it feels a little cheap, it's definitely spartan, and no one is going to mistake it for a Lexus or a BMW. But it's laid out well, everything is where you want it, it's not cluttered, it's highly functional, and the materials hold up extremely well. Most importantly for me, it has a nice thick leather steering wheel.

So as far as the weather tec wheel well black plastic trim is concerned are the only trims the sport and limited that come painted?

Seems like all kinds of manufacturers are saving $$ on paint and putting these weather tec wheel well plastic liners on.

These black plastics did not work well for the old Chevy Avalanches. I can’t imagine what these wheel well trims will look like a few years in the sun. Hell why not just not use any paint and only come in black plastic. As Henry Ford said you can have any color you want as long as it’s black

The blank buttons.. the blue color, the tiny dollar general screen… oh but it’s ok, it says TRD in the blue trim. Reminds me of TRD pwoh!

I also love how they really emphasized the side hvac vents.. made the whole dash twist and turn towards a confluence point that is this very important vent! When you drive it just right, the sun will hit that angled surface and really accentuate the vent feature

looks like the 4wd selector has a lock button to push to change 4wd mode. the dial is just to select differnet drive modes (eco, normal, sport, etc) and tow haul modes

And also how important the push start button is tucked away behind the steering wheel and the immense trim for the infotainment screen. VERY convenient !

But those cup holders are beefy AF! That big gulp ain't going no where!

the funny part, the vicious cycle repeats over and over.

3rd gen complaining about 4th gen
4th gen complaining about 5th gen
5th gen complaining about 6th gen

and it doesnt matter the forum. i was a long time member of www_toyota-4runner_org and they had the same issue with 4 vs 5 and 5 vs 6. and the same thing happens here.

and if you want to see real brutal gen bashing, go to the tundra forums and see how the 2G vs 3G is.

I think people expect the vehicle to get better after each generation but for some reason the designers always make strange decisions removing features that people like and adding/moving things that make for a worse driving experience. It seems like some of these designers have never driven a vehicle before.
